Chain Reactions part 4

Continue from yesterday...
I continued to race from space to space, each thing leading to another.
I opened the linen closet across from the newly organized storage closet
to add one small light bulb, the tiny one for the fixture over the kitchen stove.

There was ZERO room to put a tiny bulb. I moved kitchen chair, both desk chairs into the hall and started dragging stuff out.
This was the next day, I went to bed with closet exhaustion.
Three Hours Later I had this view
NOTE no photo of the Way It WAS

Both beds were covered in sheets, and more sheets. I called Bob and said LOOK AT THIS, he said

What is all that? I said Sheets that we have had for 32 years. This yellowed one is 37 years old.
He says Why am I looking at this?

I said, Do you think I need to keep sheets we have not used in 30 years?

He said NO get rid of them.
I said What if one of us gets sick and throws up during the night and we need extra sheets,

He said, You have two new sets, and we have a washer.

I said what if we are too sick to wash clothes?
The bulging closet bulges no more!
Sheets are tossed
Things are washed and refolded and the closet was EMPTY!
Actually for the first time in YEARS.
We have 2 good sets and 1 soo set.
I did not tell Bob, but I did keep 5 flat sheets, for you know,
Just In Case!
We might need to cover the furniture when we PAINT. he he he
I also kept 4 ancient rugs in case a hurricane comes and we need to stop up the sliding glass door.
you know, for JUST IN CASE!

I dragged Bob into the computer room, open a drawer and said
Remember This! I moved all the lightbulbs to this drawer.
They have been in the linen closet for 32 years, and I know when you go to get one you will say where are the light bulbs and if we both know, MAYBE one of us will remember where I moved them.
I said to him Guess how many little bulbs we have for the over the stove thingy?
SIX and they are good for a year. At our age, we may have a lifetime supply.
I said, we only have one lightbulb for a lamp.
He said when is the last time we turned on a lamp?
The answer is we can't remember.
WE are Good!
I am exhausted...

The linen closet is beautiful, like out of Better Homes & Gardens! When I save old sheets and towels for use as drop cloths or to clean up messes, I don't put them back in the linen closet. Because they will not be used for that purpose. I put them in with the tools and paint supplies. Also, that way I don't get them confused with the new linens to actually be used as they are intended. Smart to drag out chairs, that is what I do as well.

that reminds me so much of me and mark... such days of reorganizing are special and it has to be the day for that or it ends like it was before LOL

I love reading what you're doing. If you two are like us you'll both forget where the light bulbs were stored. At least that is what it's be like here.

Hello,

You are organized, the closet looks nice. We end up using old sheets for drop clothes and clean up messes. We have a drawer that holds new light bulbs. Take care, have a happy new week!

I would have no help remembering...I will use that as my excuse for not g
Really organizing. But I sure am enjoying watching what you are doing.

You are really on a roll. I cleaned out the closet that has my sheets and towels not too long ago. I threw out a whole bunch of sheets. They were old and some were mismatched sets. I kept the three newest sets and the rest went.
Maybe you could tape a not to the inside of the closet door saying where you moved the light bulbs to. I know I would end up forgetting where I moved them.

What a relief for you (and us who did not do the work) to have those projects done, Sandra. The exchange between you and Bob about the extra sheets was fun to read as well. We have 2 sets of sheets for winter (flannel here in NH) and 2 lightweight ones for other seasons.

I have two sets of sheets for each of the beds (three singles). That'll do. I've been avoiding my big hall cupboard... you are inspiring me and it might actually get done before the month is out! YAM xx

Wow. No wonder you're exhausted!
I'm smiling, on account I put our light bulbs in a box on the bottom shelf of the storage/linen closet. A year, you say? We have to replace ours (over the stove) every 6 weeks. (Then again, we leave it on 24/7. Don't ask me why.)

When I did the big linen purge last year the old sheets went to Elmore Co. humane society. I called and they said they'd be delighted to have them. Now -- you're going to think this is awful -- I've only one set of sheets for the bed. Strip-Wash-Dry and back on. Saves having to try and fold the bottom fitted one. Ha!
Gosh, I hadn't thought about the stuff you mention. Maybe I'd better buy a sleeping bag, just in case!

LOL MOL BOL IF is the longest 2 letter word in the English Language.
I am starting to merge and purge towels. I used to keep all the old ones to place around the house on Angel Madi's favorite parking spots. I'm going to take the to SPCA for others to use...once the gasoline is running more freely.
SPCA is 20 miles from home.

It really is a chore to go through closets and organize. I hate to get rid of things but I refold and restack until I am exhausted! You did GOOD!

You sure are getting a lot done! I would forget where I moved the light bulbs lol. Keep up the good work. :)

HaHa..I'm exhausted too just reading about all the work you have been doing.
Kudos to you for tackling the linen closet. Purging is good and I think it's time for me to do that to ours again. It's been a few years.
It's crazy how doing one little thing or trying to find something turns into a huge project...because it's like dominos...one thing leads to another.
Proud of you Sandra and happy with your new energy.

I think you are spring cleaning. A lot of volunteer organizations need sheets too. You go girl. Looks great.

You just never know these days... you always need to have enough sheets for visiting ghosts.

Wow, we are impressed - you are on quite the tear to sort things out. Mom is devoting one hour a day to purging the different areas of the house. At this rate, she might finish in five years:)

Trust me. In time you will forget all those old things you got rid of and be happy for it. Besides, now you have all that room to store the NEW stuff you accumulate! 🤣

Sounds about right when you start cleaning up. I find before I’m done I’ve got the whole house turned upside down. Feels good to get things in order.

Last year, I had a good look at things like this - and ended up ditching a whole lot of them and got some very nice sets. And I repurposed something that I had made do with, out of sight on top of the mattress, bought a new easy to fit topper and the old blanket became a dandy bedspread...it all looks much neater mostly...

Wow! Well done.

Your posts are so much fun to read. Have me grinning all the way to the end, always. A friend of mine finally got rid of some old and tattered towels. To make her feel better, she too finds it hard to throw anything away, she donated them to the pet shelter, they can always use them. Maybe sheets too, I don't know. Anyway, you have me looking in my closet, and it is scary..where to start? "Maybe just run away, grin" Hugs from Wisconsin
