I bought a container of strawberries, most were even bigger than this one. I like strawberries at room temperature and remembered that as a child when abused by being FORCED to pick strawberries, I would put one warmed by the sun berry in my mouth and two in the bucket.
If you zap your strawberry in microwave, for 3 seconds or 5 seconds IT IS DELISIOUS.
The War Between The States, also called The Civil War, ended in 1865. My Dad's Grandfather died at Shiloh. You might say I was raised in Dixie and no one in my family ever forgot The War. When I was 17, I dated a boy from Connecticut and my grand mother had a hissy fit . That is Southern Talk for very upset.
In 1985 I married a Yankee from Pennsylvania. We have over the last 25 years had many an argument over sayings and words. some of you will remember the Rock, Stone, Pebble post from Nov 09.
I say the road is Blacktop, he says it is Macadam
I say the bug is a Doodle Bug or Roly Poly, he says it is a Pill Bug
I say I have a stitch in my side when I run (if I run, ha ha) he says he has a sticker in his side.
A sticker to me is a little piece of something in my foot that daddy had to dig out because I would not wear my shoes.
my inspiration for this post today came when I found this test on-line.
"Are you a Rebel or a Yankee Test" (take if and see what you are if you dare) if you are from another country, take it any way and see what it says about you. let me know what you are. Note: I also took The Advanced Test.
My test said:
"you are 96 % Dixie Rebel. Is General Lee your grandfather?"
Bobs test said
"you are 17% Dixie Rebel. Wow! you are a duke of Yankdom."
this means I am rubbing off on him and he is now only 83 % Yankee! it took 25 years to do that, so how many years will it take to make him a Dixie Rebel? you do the math.

I found 8 prior posts about strawberries. And decided to add the one from January 2010 here today..
It might help you understand what I posted this week about my comment about being married to a Yankee.
Below is post from archives...Jan 2010
I am a 7th generation Southern Born Rebel on my Fathers side with one Great Great Great Grandfather from Scotland on my mothers side and the rest of the ancestors were all from the South. Nary a yankee among us.What is more Southern than Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Icing and Fresh Strawberries?

46% Dixie. Born and raised in California.
The test result says I am 60% Dixie. So I guess I am a nice mixture. Born and raised in the north, but lived most of my life in the south. And those roly poly beetles, we don't call them ANY of the options! They are Snap Beetles.
I'm 73%! Says my neck must be a litle bit rosy!
This was fun!!!
46%>barely Yankeedom
I love strawberries, that cake looks delicious.
I was born and raised in Maryland, it's the border of the Mason-Dixie line.
Take care, have a happy weekend!
Since I've never lived outside of Pennsylvania you would think I would be 100% Yankee but my results were 26% Dixie. You are a dandy Yankee Doodle.
Actually some of the words that Bob used I've neve heard used before. We don't call it macadam and I've never heard of having a sticker in your side. I guess different parts of PA have different terms.

An interesting exercise - I am borderline between the two - but then again I had to just select a word or two I MIGHT use... for example, the bugs here are called 'slaters'... and on some none of the words are used here at all. So I'm neutral and it reflected that!!! YAM xx
Mine said 55% Dixie. That was fun! :)
We are also buying giant strawberries and they are delish.
I'm 200% NC Native born Southern Belle!
Way back yonder I'm told my ancestors were from England/Ireland/Scotland of course from the southern parts of all countries.
Hugs Cecilia
This is so fun! I smile at the little old lady who refers to the Civil War as the 'War of Northern Agression.' Okay, it said I'm 73% Dixie ...whew! Like I was telling Anne, I wasn't born in the South, but I've been trying my best to catch up. I've got my doubts about Tom, but I hope he'll take the test.
I'm going to have to tell him about your strawberry-in-the-microwave tip. That fellow loves his fresh berries.
HaHa, I took the test..I'm 35% Dixie...Definitely a Yankee...that's the only place I have ever lived...I did pick up a lot of sayings from my folks born and raised in Minnesota with Swedish DNA to add to the mix.
Fun survey and I do love strawberries...yummm

My Mama was a Rebel...my Daddy was a Yankee....and I have lived north and south. Guess I'm a Rebel Yankee, or more like a Yankee Rebel LOL.
Actually, I'm mostly hungry for chocolate cake with strawberries!
We have about 12 strawberries each day in our garden. I like them from the garden, Mark likes them cold. I like the banter between you and Bob. So I took the test...45% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago.
Since I am 100% Canadian, all the yankee/dixie stuff doesn't pertain to me, but that chocolate cake looks good to enough to eat.
I can relate to the chocolate cake, would love a piece of that right now!!!! Being born in the UK can't relate but I do know all about different words for different meanings.
If you read books at all try Bill Bryson's "Mother Tongue" - the story of the English language. Because Bill is originally from your side of the Pond, he's got a first hand experience of how it has been imported and developed 'over there'.
And tell YAM-aunty that Kiwis call em slaters too. The Poms call em wood lice. Did you know they are related to crabs? (10 legs) and the only land dwelling crustacea. Useless fact for 17 July.
That cake looks very tempting.
yum! that chocolate cake with strawberries looks delicious!
