Ready, Set and almost Go for Monday 2nd knee

This photo is from Bob and the Bandits, posted in 2018. That link tells of the police chase bob got caught up in about 20 years ago.

Monday at 12:30 we walked in the hospital for Bob's pre opt testing, getting ready for  his left knee replacement, scheduled for Monday the 20th.

If you look just above the 2 police cars above, that is where we were parked for bob's PreOp appt.

Today we are Thankful that We dodged the bullet on a near crash. This may sound like a final Friday Fiction Story, but it is true.

Not sure how they got a google earth shot of the parking lot empty, but there it is.

When we drove in the lot at 12:30 there was ONE spot left to park, that is the red blob to your left.

the red dots above are US when we came out at 2 pm, the red dots show us walking towards our car.

Two nurses stood staring and said are you parked over there? she was pointing at several police cars, about 30 nurses and security guards and we could see the roof of our car. She said someone hit 7 or 8 cars over there. The police are here.

we walked close enough to see the disaster, fearing the worst, since they were all standing around our car.

The 5 red X's you see and the 3 across from it, were all the cars that were smashed. Every parking spot had a car, the smashed cars looked like some giant was playing a game of pool and broke the cars and they went every which a way.

A nurse stood sobbing loudly and screaming about her car. Her car was one of the 5 red X and all those cars were totaled. A pile of smashed cars. Debris from those cars was on the ground by our rear bumper. I can't tell you the relief we felt that our car was unharmed. Also sadness for those who lost their cars.

We waited about 15 minutes, afraid to disturb the police. I finally ask a security guard to ask the police if we could leave since we had not one scratch on our car. Count us Thankful.

The Police said yes, we could leave, and I had to back out and around the debris with 50 people watching, including the police officers.

I was shaking in my boots sandals thinking, Please Lord don't let me hit a car or a person...or a POLICE Person

We are so thankful no harm was done and so sad for the 8 people who lost their vehicles. We have no clue how it happened. but since the car that did it was apprehended and there were several police cars there, we figure it was yet another police chase that ended badly.

UPDATE! we left the hospital with the story above... and then Wed news reported the man was drunk, arrested and charged with 11 DUI charges.

He hit 11 cars not just the 8 we saw around us. How drunk do you have to be to hit 11 cars? The car he was in was very old and I am betting there was no insurance on it, which means the 11 cars will have no one to pay for the damage but their own insurance.

Evidently parking lot crashes are common because this is what I found when I googled images of parking lot crashes....  HERE

So very strange...how his car survived all those hits, and the others did not. And that he hit so many. And right at Christmas time, those poor people! Wonder how they found him, maybe security cameras.

that is a nightmare!!!! so glad you are ok and your car too. what will happen in case he has no insurance? will all people get no money for their damaged cars? hard to believe the drunken idiot is rich enough to pay for all the wrecked cars...

Wow, how incredibly lucky that your car was not involved in all of that. Unbelievable that he hit and damaged that many cars. Drunk driving is one of those things that really makes me mad. All I can think is how fortunate that there were no people standing around while the driver was causing all this. Cars can be replaced but lives can not.

Oh wow, you are so lucky your car was not involved in this crash. I feel sorry for all those people that lost their cars. I am glad they found and arrested the drunk driver. Take care, enjoy your day!

Glad to read that your car was undamaged, Sandra, but how unfortunate that a drunk driver caused such destruction to so many others. Thanks for the update about the cause and how so many vehicles were affected was amazing.

We had something similar a couple weeks ago. I too asked the same thing...how drunkdo you hafta be to hit & damage 11 cars?!!

I wondered if you read that it was 11 cars...what I would like to.lnow is how fast was he going to be able to totally destroy that many cars? You know, I thought it a miracle your vehicle had no damage, but it is probably an even bigger miracle that he did not kill anyone.

Yeah, I figured it must be drink or drugs the likely cause behind it... though why he was in the car park at all might be considered a mystery... maybe looking to park and sleep it off but found nowhere free and got miffed? Or passed out? as you say, potential for FFF there!!! glad you got out of it with little other than shaky sandals though. YAM xx

That is so scary! I sometimes wonder if I should just stay in bed and pull the covers over my head. I'm not there yet but I sure have problems with BAD drivers! I am so thankful you are SAFE! Hugs!

Sandra you did an excellent job with your re-enactment.
MY goodness me talk about being in the wrong place but also the right place. I am so thankful your car was spared.

I'm trying to figure out how he could mess up so many parked cars. He could only hit the rear part of most of them, but how? Did he just bounce from car to car?

Gosh golly on that episode of Bob and the Bandits! That does sound like something out of a Bruce Willis film. I'd have probably been trembling and wet my pants, but Bob sounds like he was Cool Hand Luke.

Still shaking my head about your recent near-miss. That poor nurse; the others, too. This map is so good; you could be a sketch artist for the Police Department.

The drunk driver always seems to win out somehow don't they? I hope they throw the book at him and he keeps off the street. That is a lot of cars hit!

Someone is watching over you both...was your car, the only red one...that somehow stopped the DUI!

Drink and drugs, the bane of our society and many others, too. So glad your car escaped damage. Wow, surgery on the 20th -- it will be a hectic Christmas!

Very thankful you or Bob were not hurt, that your car was spared. Like you, I feel sorry for all those people who weren't as lucky. What an amazing experience and I do hope Bob's knee surgery on the 20th goes well.

Wishing Bob a straight forward knee replacement and speedy recovery. We can't imagine how fast the drunk had to be going to 'total' 11 cars. Most people, even drunks would have stopped after the first one. Mr B had a friend who suffered from petit mal epilepsy and either didn't know or refused to acknowledge it. He had a seizure one day while driving a rubbish collection lorry and sideswiped an entire street full of parked cars - about 20 of them. Luckily no one was hurt at all.

I'm glad they caught him. However will they hold him, put him in jail or just release him like they have been doing here in California. I am so glad that your car was safe. I would have been devastated.

Keeping Bob and you in my prayers for his surgery on Monday. Take care and God Bless.

Hello Sandra, I haven't visited anyone else so far, as I have so much catching up to do just on your entertaining posts. All the enactment of what happened last time Bob left the hospital is incredible. You were so lucky to get away without your car being damaged. Devastating for the other unfortunate eleven people.

As today is the 23rd, I do hope that the surgery on Bob's knee went well, and that he is recuperating without too much pain. I send him a huge hug, and one to you too for I know you'll need some support too. All the best to you both.
