Back In The Day

This morning I opened the bathroom cabinet and pulled out the container with cotton pads in it and as I held it in my hand, I flipped back in Time to 1996.

In 1996, I returned home from a day of work, and Bob proudly showed me a piece of rope, that had 5 of these tied on the rope with fishing line.

He explained when wade fishing in the surf, he tied the rope around his waist and carried fishhooks, fish flies, a knife and assorted other things he might need. As he fished, they would hang loose or float when he got deeper...

Everything was kept safe from the water. He said Lynn Taylor gave me a bunch of these and I saved TWO for YOU!

OH YAY! I thought. Just what I need.

But I quickly found they make great containers for all kinds of things.

Back then they were cheap as in 50 cents. So cheap containers.

I checked Amazon and they still have these but Now they are $10.14 a jug which comes to 53 cents an OUNCE!  No longer a cheap container for my cotton balls. BEST OF ALL, THIS ONE GAVE ME SOMETHING TO POST ABOUT! BOTTOM OF THE BARREL!

I am thankful today that I live today, where there is internet and blogging and e-books and e-libraries.

I reuse lots of nice containers. Especially for the Listerine floss that fits on a wand. Not the standard string stuff. Goggle it and you'll see what I mean. I like to pop them all out of packaging into a clear former benadryl bottle. that way they don't spill while trying to get out of packaging

I too like to repurpose sturdy containers; in my case, they tend to be Horlicks bottles (very sturdy plastic suitable for freezing too) or pretty glass preserve jars. YAM xx

Brilliant! Remember that old newspaper column, "Hints from Heloise?" I remember my mother always read them and clipped those she imagined she'd need.

I've been fretting ever since Tom's started talking about taking the boat out to the lake -- the one with gators. I'm like, how are you going to keep your wallet and your cell phone at the ready ... and furthermore, dry?

Truly love your "Bottom of the Barrel" posts.
Your repurposing skills make you the Queen!
Those little containers make perfect holders for whatever...
Have a great day today.

Leave it to Sandra to repurpose an item. Great idea.

I have seen these. Who would have thought?? Now of course I would like one, what a good idea! So they don't have them in the grocery stores or Wal-Mart?

I too have containers that aren't dedicated containers but I like using them...
I can imagine your response to your Bob about the extra containers gotten for you! But such a sweet gesture which has turned out to be useful...

We love repurposing things, too, but Louis Dean wants to save EVERYTHING from used coffee filters (for his worms?) to all manner of containers! I can;t fault him since I save lots of stuff, too. Like the pretty glass jar peaches were in from Aldi. It's perfect for all sorts of leftovers. I have to hide the kitty litter jugs to get them to the trash as Louis Dean keeps saying how sturday they are and we should be able to reuse them for SOMETHING!!!

Sounds like a really good idea he had using them when he fished.
