I found the above sign hanging in Walmart with the Easter Bunnies. Planted a few herbs with it.
I had plans for this post and the sign was perfect. Bob and I bought this house in Oct of 1989. The back yard had Trees and more trees but no plants at all. Every week end we went to the flea market and madly brought flowering bushes.
We had NO idea what we were planting. The object was no grass to cut, a pool and total privacy.!
We did that for sure. There are 100 posts in my label Backyard Jungle but that is only a small portion of what I have posted. I tend to forget labels. For years it was a private paradise.
The top 3 is what our yard looked like back in 2013 Before Drought Killed it all back and the bottom 2 are what it looks like now after 5 years of drought. We are still desperate for rain. Also the master gardener was 33 years younger and so was I...
once again, we can see the fence and on one side the one that is chain link, We Can Be Seen.

Gosh, what a difference! The first photos look like a lush resort. It sure did change. How come you never hear about Florida's drought on the news or in the paper? So the Wal-Mart picture, did you buy it, or just snap it?
that is sad when your plants suffer under da weather... but we love the sign, it has something special... I would buy it ;O)
We too are in a drought! Normally, this time of year I'd be out back in a flower garden. But, nope not this year. And two winters of freezes doesn't help. We are too old to fight with mother nature.
Wow, what a difference the drought made. Mother nature needs to step up her game.

Sydney having a similar climate to yours, I grew used to drought effects too... to replant with drought-hardy plants would be a major undertaking! YAM xx
Hello,
I like everything looking green and lush! It is sad about the drought.
The sign is cute. I like growing sage and basil, maybe some thyme. Take care, enjoy your day!
That is a big difference!
MS what an oasis you have in your back yard...
Hugs Cecilia
Oh my goodness you do have a jungle out there - but it is beautiful!
Love that sign! And those now-and-then perspective shots are great.
I had to smile, imagining you and Bob as new homeowners going to the flea market for those bushes. When my parents first bought their rental house (Punta Gorda), I was dragged around to nurseries, flea markets, everywhere. Maybe that's why, to this very day, I loathe going into a garden center. They seriously intimidate me. Ha.
WOW! That is a big difference! I sure hope the rain picks up this year(although not in the form of named storms)!
Boy, I hear you on the drought situation. We are in the many year dryness too. Our yard has suffered...that and getting old...and Dave's fractured leg and our lawn guy quitting on us. We just have let the lawn go to pot..no not that kind...
It is suppose to rain in the foothills today but all we will get is gray skies...
going to my usual Friday care-giving job. Today is 4 hours but I will work two 10 hours days Mond. and Wed. then 4 on Friday..good money but oh my...I am trying to keep a sunny attitude..

That was really lush. Great privacy!!!
I love your backyard jungle. beautiful! the sign is really cute. wonderful shots btw. big hugs!
The comparison photos were quite a difference, Sandra. When we lived in VA we were also mad to buy plants and did so. Sorry to read about the drought conditions, which I knew affected CA but didn't know about FL.
Time has a way of changing things. Energy levels drop somewhat.
I have always enjoyed the look of your garden. It's very tropical looking, just what I remember from our trip to Florida years ago.
WOW!!! I am so sorry you lost your trees and cover! That was beautiful!!
