MadSnapper riding in on Dinetta to report stuff no one cares about because I can. this is my Sunday Selfie for today.
Our city cannot find enough drivers, they are cutting back on picking up curbside recycle. I decided to do my part and instead of putting my bread in throw away baggies, to store my bread in the freezer in a container that can be washed and reused. On holds a loaf of French bread minus two, and a whole loaf of Sourdough.
It has no brand name; they were really cheap Made in China found at the place where I shop every Saturday morning for food, and it starts with W.
Below is the coffee we drink and the new container. the one on the right when I bought it, was $6.98 and now the one of the left is $12.98. Same coffee, different container.
They made it tall, to make us feel better about the price.
The two containers both hold the same amount.
24.7 oz or 700 G
The short one is full to the top, the tall thin one is 3 inches from the top.
The Games They Play..
The thing that bothers me is these 3 containers are recyclable but how many people will drive to a drop off place to recycle them.
Where are all the drivers that drove for the city 2 years ago, that is the question.
NOTE! to all who thought they missed the Wed post from the 16th it was Senior Moment Error that posted on this past instead of this coming auto post for Wed the 23rd .
by the time I found it, 6 people had commented.

Great post today, and I like seeing what they did to the coffee cans. I guess you pay a lot more because they made the can bigger!
I would rather they use the smaller can...more useful to reuse I would think, but at least less material to throw away. Anyway, things are wild right now with the inflation, shortage of workers, etc.
Continuing the conversation about signs - signage assumes that all people can read. A remarkably worrying percentage of the population can't. Symbols become useful, but like a lot of symbols used in tech stuff (like app buttons on screens) they rely on learning what they stand for. Techies like to bandy about the word 'intuitive' but a lot of it is only 'intuitive' to the people who designed it.
On the subject of less waste packaging and more recycling - don't get F started....she has spent years trying to improve our household record on that and believes now the only feasible way to achieve it is to eat like a fasting monk. Everything from supermarkets is packaged, even if it doesn't really need to be, and even when they say their packaging is 'greener' it just means it is a different kind of waste. It's still waste. (I'll shut her up now or this will turn into a rant.) xxx Mr T
I noticed the same here, but not with coffee...potato chips!!

Yeah, I reuse as many containers as I can. As F says, it would be better if there wasn't so much packaging in the first place... YAM xx
I hate when they keep the package size the same but change the packaging. Like they think consumers are too stupid to realize they are paying twice as much for the same amount.
Hello,
I have re-used the plastic coffee container, the lid works well. I noticed some packages seem smaller and the prices have gone up. For awhile hubby and I noticed we are paying more and getting less. I am confused about the post, did I miss something. Have a great day!
MadSnapper, Investigative Journalist!
How stoopid do those food brokers think we are? Grrrr! What bites, there are a few products I just suck it up b/c I refuse to compromise. We love our food!
Having trouble getting my comment to post!
I try very had to follow the 3R's
recycle
reuse
repurpose
Hugs Cecilia
Sandra everything and anything has risen in price. They are pricing me out of so many things. It is so sad and I can't figure out why this is happening.
Bate and switch.
There are so many things that should be illegal...like making containers bigger than they need to be just to fool people. The thing is they don't fool us that care and the ones that don't care, don't care. I get so tired of everything going down in size....they do it an ounce at a time. And pretty soon you are only getting 12 ounces instead of a pound.
The coffee vendors should know better than to try and fool you!
Hello Sandra,:=) Everywhere prices have soared, just about everything here has gone up in price. petrol especially. Anyway, I like the small can better, as is seems a more practical size. They extra cost is just for the packaging but we are not stupid or blind. I expect most people will buy things in reusable containers.
Hello Sandra, like you-all I try to apply the three R's as well. Thank you for your regular visits to my blog. I truly appreciate your comments. Have a great day. Jo
they way the containers are changing with the prices going up and the amounts getting less and less really does more than annoy me!
We recycle all of our plastic and glass products. There is still one or two recycle centers that we can go to. Dave recovered $20.00 back for making the trip to that center. We do try to be good recyclers. Sue
That's a great idea on the containers. I can't believe what they did with the coffee. Everything is going up in price and it's a shame.
My bread comes in plastic bags to begin with so also goes into the freezer in those bags. Coffee I don't drink so only buy the tiniest jars of instant coffee for guests every now and then. Most of my teas I buy loose leaf from a tea shop, they put it in small paper bags and at home I put it in tins. I have about 300 m walk to recycling bins for plastic and paper, glass jars and newspapers - I usually go once a week.
Last weekend, my grocery delivery was scheduled 10-12.30 - it finally turned up at 2pm. The guy was doing a back2back service from a different distribution centre as there were no drivers at my regular place - this possibly due to our current restrictions regarding the surge of Omiron in NZ.
The costs of everything has risen big time here, again because of the situation world wide and here, many brands and lines n/a. But one has to eat! Petrol (gas) went up but the gov't has kind of intervened and ditched one of their tax/revenue charges (I don't buy petrol, no vehicle)
