Senior Moment Again

I came home with the watermelon, took the ugly photo, because I wanted a photo to go with the Senior Moment Story. Added the photo of the frozen fruit slushy because I took it and had nothing else to do with it. It looked so ugly I created Watermelon Art.
All this to say this.
At the self-checkout, I scan the heavy items with a hand held wand because they are HEAVY.

I walked out of the store without paying for the watermelon.
I lifted bags from cart to car and as soon as I saw the melon, I thought OH NO. I had put the bags on top of it while patting myself on the back inside my head, because the customer service lady walked by and said, you are a professional at checkout.
I got so full of pride inside my head, I stole the watermelon.
I yanked the sticker off of it and walked back inside and the lady who checked my reciept
for unbagged items when I left, said what did you forget.
I said, I did not pay for the watermelon.
she said oh no and I missed it too.
I wanted to just get in the car and drive away and blame it on the lady that did not catch my mistake.
Thanks to my Dad, I knew if I did, bad things would happen if I did not pay for that melon.
A. it would be rotten and I would have no receipt to return it.
B. On the way home I could have a flat tire or an accident
C. I could choke on it while eating it
and I could not forget the verse in the Bible that says
thou shalt not steal.
. At least I found it before I got home and had to drive back.
Wouldn't you know my memory failed me and I did not scan it, but my memory worked fine reminding me I did not do it in the first place
You're one in a melon for reading this

and for once in my lifetime of following your blog - I'm first in a melon to post a reply...once I inadvertently stole a vegetable peeler, it got at the back of the cart and I didn't notice it until I put the groceries in the car! I paid for it the next week but what a hoopla that was...

Your last photo is beautiful...fruit art! You did the right thing; we would have done the same. I love your shopping stories.

Love the WM art. I'm sure we've all done it. F was carrying a bag of grapes in one hand one day when she dropped the stuff in the other hand on a fast check out counter, got them scanned, paid, scooped up the loose items and walked gome before she realized she was still carrying a bag of grapes in her left hand. How did the check-out not see that?

we are so with you... there is bad karma with stolen things.. I once got a pack of coke for "free" and forced mark to drive back to pay for it... he was angry and drove too fast and got a ticket... said it is my fault... no, it isn't... it was karma... ;O)

I did something similar the other day. Fortunately, like you, I discovered my mistake before I drove home. I wasn't even embarrassed, just pleased I found it right away and could pay for it then. I don't even count that as a senior moment, I congratulate myself for figuring it out. 😊

Oh yes, been there done that... in my case, it was a box of eggs (this is back before I left OZ). I had put them up on the bag tray of the trolley and still don't really know how I missed them... but meno was really raging at that time so all sorts of things were 'mental'. I phoned the store and explained that I realised I had items unpaid for and could they take my card deets now to pay for the difference. They refused. I had to get the bus all the way back with the eggs to settle my unforeseen debt. That nearly tripled the price of those darned oeufs!!! YAM xx

I did that once with a pepsi cube (the 24 pack) I didn't take it back in with me because it was heavy. When I explained to the girl she said she needed one to scan so I had to walk all the way back to where they were. I got to the register, paid and started to walk away when the man behind me yelled "you forgot your pepsi"
Love your watermelon art.

Hello,
I 've been there and done that too. I went back inside.
I love your last image of the watermelons. Take care, enjoy your day!

I've been known to pay then leave without the groceries.

I'm loving this so much, b/c the 'what-if' scenarios are the same as mine. The first time Tom and I did self-checkout I was so wound-up afraid of making a mistake, I grabbed the cart and started to walk out w/o even putting my card in the reader! Another time at Publix the bagger-person asked politely, did I want the xxx? I'd totally spaced taking it out and putting on the belt to be rung up. Humiliated, party of one!

I have been there, done that. If it is an expensive item I go back...as in dollars...I can't think what but there was something little I did not pay for. I figured we were even because I have paid for several cans of catfood that I did not buy. And didn't catch that they accidentally gave something a second scan without realizing it. Seems like it has been a while since I have had that happen. Used to happen often, but one of us usually caught it.

You are a very honest person, Sandra, and thank goodness you did not have to drive back, but then you would have paid on the next trip. That melon did provide some great photo art and hope it was delicious as well.

You are indeed one in a melon! And I know you felt better going back in to pay. Hope it was a sweet one! You deserve it!

I LOVED this! Been there and done that a few times. You and I sure think alike on getting back in there to rectify. XX

AMEN to your Dad. I once had something that was missed by the checkout person. I went back in to pay for it...she challenged me saying she was sure she didn't miss it. Rather than argue I just showed it to customer service...desk they rang it for me.

That same thing has happened to me several times.
It happens when I am buying things for myself and then in a separate transaction buying things for our Celebrate Recovery desserts. 2 transactions same basket full of stuff..
senior moments seem to be the way my life is going. Love the watermelon picture at the end.
I will probably come up as UNKNOWN but it is me ...Sue

Mom says she has made similar mistakes, like when an item slips down between the seat part and the bottom of the cart. AND you don't have to be a senior to forget an item - it happens to many of all ages:)

I have done that before. It gives me quite a start and hopefully it will be a long time before I do it again. Good for you on taking it back. I like your watermelon photos.
