Yay for Rain and More rain

We are in day 7 of Rain and loving it. We are in sub-tropics, this means rain comes in bursts, 10 to 15 minutes put down 3 inches of rain.

In other climates this would mean MUD and puddles for days. Here it flooded the yard, ran down the driveway, stood in the street gutters. 15 minutes later, it quit, the photo below was taken about 30 minutes after the rain quit.

You can see the ground is dry. Another hour and you can even tell it rained.  Oue soil is black sand and soaks like a sponge, then dries. It is very rare to get rain that last all day.

An hour later, the cloudburst came and did it again.   It pours and quits and pours and quits and the sun comes out and bakes it dry. It also can be pouring like this and the sun will be shining at the same time.

Normal weather is a cloudburst each day and that is what creates the hot steamy humid weather that makes the jungles grow.

Suddenly your yard will spring into life. All those pla ts that were clinging to the edge of life will be trying to come indoors with you in a week or two and you will be needing to send out search parties for Beau.

It must be good to see the rain. I was interested to hear about your weather conditions. When you get a cloudburst I don't suppose you want to be under it taking Beau for a walk.

YAAAAYYYY>>> and this reminded me so much of rains in Sydney. I'd say Mumbai, but there, once it starts, it doesn't stop and the streets become rivers... YAM xx

And the Earth said "Amen!"
I take back every ugly thing I used to say about rain. Hopefully, we'll get a little this week to cool a bit; last night's weatherman said he feels like he's living in Satan's armpit.

Dramatic1

When we first moved to coastal Mississippi in 1970, rain was a daily occurance, every day in the summer months. Not sure exactly when that changed but it is no longer regular. Extended dry spells are not unusual now.

We could truly use a 7 days of rain.
Yesterday was 97 degrees w/ 102 feels like
Today we expect 100 degrees w/ feels like of 111.
VERY VERY unusual for us.

I remember being at Disney World in one of those crazy thunder..lightning...downpour floods.
Everyone had to retreat into the stores to wait it out. the lightning was too dangerous to be out in. The walkways were flooded. then after a while we were back out like nothing had ever happened.
The humidity would really get to me though.

Glad you are happy about the rain. We had weeks of rainy days, and now the hot heat has come and we could really use some rain. Mom is going to have to run the sprinkler system. And isn't goo because the water is to pricey!!!
