Red Dog Day one

Roofing Day Arrived 7/26/2022.
At 7:55 2 men sat in truck until 8:08.
For 3 blazing hot hours the two men worked like beavers.

There were only 2 of them, one called out sick. Mondays are famous for that.
They covered the ground with black netting and AC and all things that could be harmed.
Our AC has the fan on top, and the man in the photo below and I had a few laughs while trying to communicate through our language barrier.
I was afraid it would burn the fan motor; he was saying it was netting and OK, He pointed at the canvas on our grill and shook his head no, at his netting and smiled and said Yes.
The noise was not all that bad and precious Beau was an angel. Only barked once when something hit the window while they put down netting to cover everything.

While they played the drums on the roof, another truck pulled in. And since I was hanging out the window, I met him halfway to the door. He wanted the 2nd check and Mr Tall Dark, Hansome  18 year old said he was the project manager. He held up his Ipad and verified what and when and how and we chatted like he was my Great Grand Son.  He took my 2nd check, there will be a 3rd when its done and drove away.

They worked steady for 3 hours nonstop, until 11:15 and then sat in the truck. While they sat the project manager arrived and unloaded things onto the roof, He was really tall and lifted shingles and boxes and rolls of black stuff like it was nothing.
He left. I hung out the window.
they sat for 45 minutes, drove off at 12 and back at 12:30 and sat in the truck eating chicken.
I saw all this through my window... I fretted and FRETTED.
I could see the afternoon Monsoon building to the East. Every day they come between 3 and 6.
at 1 O'clock Bob went out to get the mail and came in and said they are both asleep.
OMG! Siesta. They sat in that truck for 3 hours.
Back up on the roof 2:15, I watched the radar and FRETTED
The vent was off the peak of the roof and in the garage, I could see the hole the rain would come through.
At 4 pm Tall Dark and Handsome came and stepped on the tail gate, onto the dumpster and stepped on the roof. Wow! I said to Bob, and he was not impressed, by now sick to death of my telling him what was happening.
I went out to the truck to see what was what, and he was said they will cover the roof, don't worry. I said I hear thunder, it's dangerous for them, he said they know when to get down.
I stood in the back yard and watched them madly rolling black tar paper over the wood they had put down. Drops started, a few, thunder rolled, I went inside because I did not want to be struck by lightning and wanted to be able to call 911 if it got them
The sky opened at 4:45 and the monsoon came, they sat in the truck for an hour and still the thunder roared. The man in the first photo, got out of the truck and started to the door and a bolt smacked the ground right in front of our house. He jumped in the truck, and they left.
I am writing this at 4 am and waiting for
Day Two to begin, no water in the house and now it will be a 3rd day.
I hope the 3rd man comes today because Monsoons will be here in 10 to 12 hours.

Oh my, I hope more workers come back today to help finish the roof.
I can only assume they are used to the rain storms in Florida.
I would not be able to sleep in a hot truck or car for 3 hours, that's crazy.
BTW, my grand-dogs bark at any and every noise they hear.
Good luck and take care, try not to worry. Have a happy day!

wow that sounds good... and we wonder how fast things go on and on... we got a law that it is not allowed to stretch such works longer than 18 months? I think... what a country we are LOL

Our roofing fiasco went on for months, so yours happening in a matter of days is super impressive. Can't wait to see the end result! YAM xx

A week from now when it's all done, normal will return & no more fretting. You sound so much like me.

A siesta ... seriously?! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. At least they got the tar paper up in time; probably not their first rodeo. I don't think they print enough money to prompt me into doing that sort of work.

Just reading this, my own IBS is acting up. (Either that, or the fact we've got to go back to UAB this morning.)

I hope they get it done today. It's hard for the workers with the heat and then the showers that pop up. But they sure are hard workers and know what they're doing! I know you'll be glad to get it finished!

Those roof guys are the best...too hot, stinky and really hard work...not for me for sure.
The hard physical labor deserves some down time.
You will be so happy when this is over.
Yay for Beau and his calm, cool demeanor.
The weather is "cool" here this morning. only going to get to 95F.
Wildfire up by Yosemite has sent a lot of smoke down our way in the "Flatlands". Its kind of a sickly yellow cast to everything.
We are fine where we are but it's just the wind patterns that cause heavy smoke here. We're in the central valley and it just settles here between the mountain range and the Pacific ocean.

Oh My GOSH!!! Your adrenaline must be sky high. I am so sorry, but I have read this out loud to Phil, and we laughed and laughed and laughed. You just have such a way with words, and have made my week. This roofing job wll be the most fun I have had online in many moons. But I do feel bad for you, and know this is just what I would be doing too, if we had to get a roof. I am so glad the bolt did not hit anything, that was super scary!!

I can't believe what I am reading. I would have been a wreak. As I started reading this I wondered about rain because you have been having so much. Then you mentioned that a strike of lighting hitting right in front of the house!! Hopefully all is well in your house with the covering they put down. I do like the fact that they had all that netting to catch things and to cover your air conditioner.

How stressful! Fingers crossed they finish soon, that everyone is safe, and that the new roof is sound. 🤞

I hope they have the job finished soon and then you can cross one stressful item off your list.

That was a great account and I felt stressed for you! That lightning strike must have been a doozy. I hope all gets done tomorrow.
