New Author I am reading

I am currently reading The Water Keeper by Charles Martin.  (Murphy shepherd Novel Book 1)

I read in my kindle but this book can be bought in any format, at any store you can buy a book.

Below is part of a conversation between a man called Fingers and Murphy Shepherd.

I read this and had to get up and come to the computer.

What do you know about sheep?
They get lost often.
Why?
Because they can.
Why?
Because the grass is always greener.
And that is called?
Murphy's Law.
They are easy prey; The Lion is never far.
They seldom find their way home.

So, they need a shepherd.
What Kind?
The kind who will leave the warmth of the fire and the
safety of the flock to risk the cold, the rain, and sleepless
nights.
To what?
Find the one.
Why?
Because the needs of the one may out-weigh the needs of many.

While reading this I remembered the old hymn we used to sing in church.
The Ninety and Nine.

I am finding it difficult to put this book down. I find myself thinking about it, even when I manage to stop reading.
The people have become real to me.
A riveting story of heroism, heartache, and the power of love to heal all wounds by bestselling author Charles Martin. Murphy Shepherd is a man with many secrets.

This is an author who I have not read, so thank you, Sandra, for the information. I am also on the lookout for recommendations and will check the local library as Kindle reads have become my preference.

Now that's a powerful-but-comforting quote.
What you said about the characters becoming real? If I were an author, that's one of the nicest things someone could say. It's been a long time since I felt that way about a book, but I want to add The Water Keeper to my library list.

PS - Tom still hasn't hooked up the computer speakers so I'm going to listen to this hymn on the way to church.

Hmmmm... might not be one I'd select, but I do agree that to find a book that one can't put down, or stop pondering when not reading it, is something worth having! YAM xx

I hope you will be posting more about this book! People don't understand about sheepherds, how they have to be on guard, especially in the night, and sleep out in the bad weather and shuch. It is far from a cushy job.

I sure remember that hymn from my church many years ago. When I started to read your dialogue I immediately thought of the Good Shepherd.
Sheep really need to be tended and guided along the way..
Pretty much like us at times in our lives.
I'm not familiar with the author but will look him up. Sounds interesting.

It's good when a book makes you think on life and things. I'm glad you are enjoying it. Thanks for sharing, I will check out the author on my Kindle.

I just checked him out, he had written a ginormous number of books! And I have never heard of him. Makes me wonder how many good writers there are out there that one has never heard of or will never hear of.

I love this author but haven't read this book. Have you read The Mountain between us? I felt the same way about the characters and then......they made a movie out of it and I love the actors! This author really draws you in and makes you feel like you are living the lives in the place he has the book set. Amazing! I'll put this one on my reading list.
