Two Potties In the House

I took this photo at the Historical Village about 10 years ago.
I have been Blessed with bathrooms in my lifetime.

After chatting with a friend who lives with only one bathroom, I decided to
chat about bathrooms.

1944-1952, one bathroom
1953-1956 2 bathrooms
1955-1959 1 Outhouse. down a hill about 40 feet. Butt it did have 2 holes. 😋

1959 to 1963 2 adults, 2 teens, One Bathroom
1964 til now, 2 bathrooms

On the lighter side, below is a rest room I almost forgot.

Daddy bought a brand new 1953 Pontiac and we moved to Kentucky, a 12-hour drive from my hometown in Savannah. We stayed there until Jan of 1960 and moved back to Savannah.

We spent HOURS in this car. 12-hour trips, and Daddy's first church was an hour of winding mountain roads from our home, we went there twice a week.
I was always jealous because my dad and brother could wander out into the woods and use whatever they wanted.
MY bathroom was the two back doors opened to shield me from any traffic.

Yes, I could have gone out into the woods but refused because of
snakes, bears, spiders, mountain lions, moon shiners that might kidnap me!
Are you picking up what I am putting down?
Fear made me use the car door potty.
Good news is back then traffic was zero.
I am sure Mother, and Daddy discussed behind my back letting the Moonshiners
kidnap me as an OPTION!

We are a Two Potty Household and for that, I am Thankful. How many do you have?
Have you ever had an outhouse?

We have two bathrooms down here in the apartment, one in our house up on the land. I used an outhouse when we used to go to Andy's family cabin, and we built one up on the land to use because our first house wasn't finished.

What a story!! Growing up as a child, we never had more then one bathroom. And we have only had one bathroom our entire married life of over 52 years. A friend once remarked to me that she didn't know how we managed it with only one bathroom between us. But growing up, there were five of us with only one bathroom, so two isn't as bad comparatively.

we are happy to have two.... but I remember the ole wooden shack at my grandparents... my dad lost his wallet with all papers there... it was a party for the whole hood as they emptied the big collecting tank... oh my....

Only one bathroom in my house and that's all I've had everywhere I've lived. We never had an outhouse but I had cousins who did.

My grandparents had an outhouse on the farm. I remember one outhouse (one holer) in Colorado I used near a gold mine. It was built on a cliff!!! Use it, and you'd see a sheer drop off the edge dropping 1000s of feet. Lordy. If the view didn't stop the urge nothing would.

Currently one - but then it is a single-person unit for the most part. My last Aussie home was a one-pot wonder. The one before it had the full bathroom inside and the 'dunny' tacked on outside the kitchen door. Always had to check for Redbacks and Funnelwebs when using that, though... YAM xx

Hello,

Hubby and I need a two bathroom house, always. The house I grew up in was very small with only one bathroom. Have a happy day!

There is always blog post subject matter in our life stories as you have shown in this post, Sandra. Growing up, there was only a single indoor bathroom in my home and in my first apt. Since then, there have always been 2 indoors in a townhouse in NJ, house in VA and now an apt in NH. Grenville also had 1 in most of his childhood homes, but also had an outhouse in a home he owned before we met and married.

Loo talk wtg
I thankfully have had indoor plumbing my entire life; however, once when I was about 7 we went to visit my Great aunt and uncle. They only had one indoor loo. I was assigned upstairs bedroom way away from the loo so they had a chamber pot (great aunt called it a slop pot disgusting) in that room. I made darn sure not to drink too much no way was I using that.

I've NO idea how my mother, father and I peacefully co-existed in a one-bedroom apartment. (Only surmise, their digestive systems must have been better disciplined.) Without going into TMI, Tom and I would be in trouble if we didn't have a 'his' and 'hers.' Even on the rare occasion that we stay in a hotel, I make note of the nearest public restroom just in case ours is already occupied.

PS - Great idea for a post!

Oh my gosh this post struck me as a funny one, Love your illustrations here. I've never had a Outhouse but have used them. My mom always told the story about how I had to go to the bathroom really bad as a kid on a trip so they pulled over to an outhouse and she took me inside and I took one look at the hole and said I didn't have to go anymore! - I have several bathroom stories now that come to mind. Maybe I should do a post on them. - Anyway it was fun to read your post and I had a good laugh. I understand about the car door potty too.

I totally love this post Sandra.
Who'd of thunk it about making a whole post about potties?
We only had 1 bathroom from birth until we moved into our second home when I was in Jr. high...there were only 3 of us so it wasn't horrible and if its all you know then that's the way it is.
Jr. high until I was married was 2 bathrooms.
Dave and my first apartment 1964 was a single bathroom. When we bought our first home until now we have always had 2 baths. I am forever grateful for them. Even now with only 2 of us living in our house A His and hers is the only way to GO..haha..
Camping and my yearly treks to Mexico involved outhouses but they really were clean. Not my choice by any means.
I do remember one incident..when Dave and I were first married. After getting off work late one Friday night, we took off to meet some friends and go camping.
The woods at 11pm are DARK !!
I had to pee so badly that Dave said just go a little ways up that trail. I did...sweet relief.
In the morning I found out that I had gone potty in the Rangers front yard...so glad I never got caught.

Oh yes, I can relate to those roadside stops and a 'potty' between open doors. I am now 73 years old and until I was 43 years old, I never had a flush toilet. It was an old outhouse, or a pail in the basement that had to be emptied often. Oh the convenience, not.

What was it like going from having a bathroom to having to use an out house? I understand not wanting to go where there could be snakes. Thanks for sharing your potties.
