The Case of the Disappearing Shrooms

This was my first ever sighting of these fungi.
They were in the front yard with no access to them by Beau, so I left them there.
I found this site that will tell you they are Pleated inkcap Mushrooms.

The side view photos are not very good because my OLD Body just doesn't bend well, and the cell phone shakes while I am trying.
I wanted to lie down and take the photo but then there would be no one to create this post.

I thought they were fascinating and even more when I looked them up. I was shocked to find they come up after rain, and the next morning have disappeared as though they were never there. And they were gone when I looked, no sign at all they were ever there. They completely decomposed.
Not edible but nontoxic.

Wow, I have never seen this kind! They look like fancy Japanese parasols. You got great pics too, they are so artistic. Did you know that mushrooms are only the top of the living roots and organisams underground?

I have never seen mushrooms like that before. They are very attractive. They do look like little umbrellas.

I've seen squirrels eating them before sunrise. I think the hot sun, once it hits the mushrooms, they shrivel up like some night blooming flowers.

Made me laugh when you said about laying down to take a shot. I know exactly what you mean, lol
In my head I am capable of so much until it comes to doing it, lol

They have to be the most beautiful fungi we have ever seen and yes just exactly like parasols.

Those are such pretty mushrooms. I've never seen anything like them.
I love how bright white they are.

We have some type of fungus that grow in the yards around here that are reddish brown and very close to the ground. They look like chickens with their heads tucked under their wing. I saw one from my front door across the street at the neighbors house and it looked like they had a sleeping chicken in their yard. I googled and tried to find what looked like that fungus, and found a picture that looked very much the same that is called "Hen of the Woods". The name was right sounding. The info said it was edible, but I would be afraid to eat any mushroom or fungus unless someone who knew what they were talking about showed it to me and said it was safe.

We see these quite often, and like you, I want to get down and take a shot, but if I got down I would probably just have to stay there till someone found me, or till a vulture got me.

They are so cute. I hiked this morning and saw lots of mushrooms. The conditions are just perfect for them now!

How lovely they are! The name's sure appropriate. I was also thinking that last shot looks like a seashell.

Ever since our Girl Scout troop went on a nature hike and learned about all the poisonous mushrooms I've been leery of anything not prepackaged in the grocery store.

Those are so cool! I happen to love mushrooms as a collectable, especially when I was in my 20's. I used to have photos on the wall. Over the years I think I just have one nic nak left. I find these to be really interesting and I don't recall ever seeing them before.

Hello Sandra, these amazing mushrooms do look like pleated Parasols. New to me, and we have plenty on the farm just now. I'll be looking out for some like these pretty mushrooms.
