The Bed, The Box and The Grabber

The Bed, my home for 5 days straight and I did a lot of sleeping because Muscle Relaxers knocked me out.

The box. It held my tablet and pen, 2 remotes to TV and Fire Stick, and my Chromebook and cellphone. No photo of the iPhone, it was in my hand.
Addiction to the camera in the iPhone did not go away even though I was in pain.
These were taken on the 4th day, the first 3 I moaned and slept.
I had to get Bob to get the shoe box off the top shelf.

The bed and box photo instatooned, because tooning was something I could do in bed.

The grabber A.K.A grill tongs, lived on the sink. I used it to catch the edge of my underwear to work them on my toes without bending forward and for picking up all the things I dropped in the bathroom.

During Normal Days, I use these tongs to reach things in the back of shelves and on top shelves.
I do have a grabber but like this best.

Several of you mentioned a grabber, I have one and this one, but have you ever tried to pick up paper or a fork, or an eggshell? I dropped all of that and more... Lucky Me, I just yelled for bob, the Living Grabber

The only grabber I have around here likes to eat a lot of what he picks up. If it's paper he'll tear it to shreds and then he's done picking up.

LOL- I was in bed for 18 days straight with pneumonia. I am laughing to think about a box like that on my bed with Scruffy the Cockapoo here. Everything in it would have been removed and hidden. lol. To get anything back I have to "trade for a treat". lol. Sadly--He is smarter than I am. Hope you are a whole lot better now! xo Diana

You both could benefit by purchasing a grabber tool. I've even seen them at Walmart. And Amazon. We have one. Great for not having to bend over.

I'm grinning at your title ... like Narnia, only different! It never occurred to me to use tongs. Clever. And ergonomically friendly, for sure.
We're supposed to go over to Harbor Freight later today; I need to quit talking about getting a grabber and just buy one. All the time I'm dropping clothespins or hangers behind the washing machine.

I have two grabbers of different length, with rubber grip, they're useful for picking up most things. They also have a magnet at the other end to pick up for example needles. A fork would be no problem, paper may get crumpled in the process, a dry eggshell I think they could handle too. I also have a broom and dustpan set with long handles, and they can be used to get some things up from the floor as well. I suppose if you dropped something like a whole, raw egg that broke - or a glass jar full of jam - that would be true challenge to sort out without being able to bend, though!

To see your humor return must mean you are feeling better. I've never heard of a grabber before. I'm so tall, I can reach things toward the front of the top shelves in my cabinets, I use and old broom stick, without the brush, but with a hard edge for the brush attached, to push things from the back so I can just grab them myself.

But a grabber would be good for picking up things from the floor, as I'm not getting any younger.

I should have told you, you answered my question about grabbers...for the picking up of small stuff. This sure has not been fun for you...I hope and pray you never have another episode like this.

What would we do without our "Living Grabbers"?
So glad you are doing better and tongs are the best little investment for so many things.
Love your "toons" of your last 5 days.
Weather today is gray, blah and drizzly. A good day for doing some much needed correspondence and eBay research.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Using those tongs like you did is a clever idea and your photos were fun. Hope you are feeling better as each days goes by.

Amber was on bed rest for weeks before going to the hospital for 52 days before the quads were born. The grabber was so very important to her!!! I think I may need to get me one now!!
So glad you were still able to create in spite of your pain. Glad you are better now!!

So glad to see that you are mobile and upright again, Sandra. I read the previous post about the agonizing trip to the medical offices, and that was certainly a painful ordeal even just reading it and thankfully have not experienced anything similar. Hopefully, neither will you.

Enjoyed the photos. You have been through so much. Hopefully you are on the mend and this won't happen again. You take care.

I do hope you are feeling better. I like the technique you did. And Bob your live grabber, I have one too, but I like the real grabber too = paper is hard.

Hi Sandra. I was just about to pack it in for the day, when I saw you had made another post. I see most of you call those picker uppers Grabbers, and I wouldn't like to be without the three of mine. I have one in the kitchen, one in the bedroom, and another one in the bathroom. All essential, and they all work. They have a rubber at the bottom of the grabbers and can pick up paper, pins, and the smallest of crumbs. A long handled brush and long handled pan is in the bedroom and balcony. I use a long handled shoe horn to help me to get my shoes on, and a a device to get my socks on. Yes, I'm old and decrepit, and feel really bad today, but grateful to be alive. See you when I feel better, and I'm really pleased to see you doing well.
