Living in the Past

This display is in the Baby department of WM.. I think is beautiful.  I have not looked at fitted crib sheets for many years. They have a few at $10, the rest are $13, $17 and $30 per sheet.  I did not look at the prices on display because it hurts my head to see those prices.

I furnished my entire living room the year we got married, 1963 for 1/2 the money to buy a crib.
109.99 for Sofa, Chair, 2 end tables 1 coffee table.
Baby Bed without mattress 279.00
Baby Food I bought 10 for 1 dollar. now the same thing is 1.69 for one jar.
When David was born in 1965, someone in our church gave us a used crib, and it was painted for David and again for Daniel 2 years later. There was ZERO decor involved.
Lucky me, my dad was the pastor of our church, and a church wide baby shower provided a few dozen cotton diapers to be washed and hung to dry. Several crib sheet and blankets, and clothing. We had to buy nothing, but a 4-drawer used chest of drawers, that was then painted and used until they left home.
The set up on this display cost, would have furnished our entire apartment.
YEP! I am living in the past!

that was sweet to take a look into the past... I pondered about my ole crib too... it went to my cousins and saw a lot of little people ...

In fact, one doesn't have to look too far back to discover that prices have become atmospheric (as compared). Even in the ten years I have been back in the Bonny Land, the price of bread and milk has virtually doubled...and a lot of that just in the past year. YAM xx

Hello,
It's true, the price of everything has gone up big time.
I feel sorry for the family starting out right now, with the cost of a house and a car and with just the daily items we all use right now. I like the zebra and giraffe images, they are cute for a baby's room. Take care, have a great day!

Oh the good old days. I look at the prices of things today and I can't help wondering how people are doing it. Especially when they have multiple kids. Then you see families going out to eat and I think it's expensive enough for just myself, how can they afford to pay for 5 of them.

When my girls were babies, a jar of baby food was 49 cents...

I recall someone in NZ telling me about using a drawer from the bottom of a wardrobe as a crib - for each of their kids. No frills, no expense there, and returned to being a storage drawer when no longer a crib. My stepdaughter put herself and her partner into so much debt buying stuff for their first baby that they had to give up their rented home and move in with her mother. The amount of stuff she bought would have filled a bus, and she didn't have a job!

I can't even imagine raising a child in this day and age with how high the prices of everything have climbed!

I really love that baby room display. It works for both boys and girls and those animal prints are delightful.
Our Super Walmart doesn't have any of these displays. Wasted space but I bet people buy more actually seeing the products used.
Don't get me started on cost of things. Sticker shock just buying a 5 lb. bag of potatoes for Thanksgiving.
I don't remember the cost of things exactly when Steve was born..1968..
I know we got most of our things from our church wide baby shower too. Mother in Law bought our crib for us. She got it at the PX on base so I know it didn't cost what it would have on the outside. I remember gas was $0.27 a gallon. The house we bought was $23,900..3 bedroom 2 bath...you can't even buy a car for that now.

For the life of me, I can't remember what things cost/what I spent back in 1969-70. Troy's dad and I had like two worn nickels to rub together, so I'm guessing my parents bought the crib and bedding.
We were too poor to use a diaper service and wow, how I remember the horrible 'aromas' that used to come from the diaper pail. (*Shudder*)

They don't make things like they used to and I'm sure what you had back then was tons better than the cheap crap of today.

We didn't buy much furniture for Kaitlin, but I do remember washing diapers.

Hubby and I hardly go out due to ice on pavements this time of the year. Family visitors come to us. The price of food and fuel goes up daily. I enjoy photos of the places you go to.

That’s a real pretty display. Always interesting to see the cost of things compared to what they used to be.

They display is cute. I would say that you were blessed to have the help you got through the church.
