Six Gun Territory, Silver springsFFF

One of the first things I asked Bing Image Creator to make for me was a Cowboy on a horse.
For all of my life I have loved Cowboys. Ask me what movie I wanted to see as a teenager, and it was always a Western. My dad loved them, the old silent ones. I wanted to be a cowboy. NOT a cowgirl. a Cowboy!
You may have seen this AI creation below on Beaus Blog.
I added us walking in a Western Frontier Town.

This stirred up fond memories of Six Gun Territory.

In 1963 they opened this frontier town, right in the center of Ocala, Florida, which was on the highway we drove from Savannah GA to Palmetto Fl several times a year to visit my mother's birthplace. I think we visited Six Gun Territory 3 times. There was a train with a steam engine that picked us up in the parking lot and deposited us right into the street where there was a gun battle raging.

As a child I loved reading and from as far back as my memory goes, I loved gunfights in the street.

photos from Six-gun Territory found in vintage google images.

And the scandal of it all was the skimpily costumed Cancan dancers in the saloon and since my family were all teetotalers' (no alcohol allowed)
the place I went first was the saloon to see the girls dance, no dancing allowed in our life either.
It was thrilling to me. Like I had landed in a favorite Movie or TV show.
there were Teepees and Indians with headdresses and dancing around the fires.

Jut a memory now, and Hollywood has forgotten how to make a decent western.
I still love them.
The video says Glu Galagher visited their often to take part but at the time I did not know that.
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THINGS THAT GO BOOM
I still love action movies, I have moved on to Spies and Spooks, think Jason Bourne! I have seen all of them several times and now they are making the last one. I also love all things CIA/FBI/Detectives and anything that is about Seal Teams. That is what I read, those type movies, every day of my life.
I read Louis Lamour and Zane Gray at early age, now I read.

Lee Child, James Patterson, who is known for his Alex Cross and Women's Murder Club series.
David Baldacci, who is known for his John Puller and Will Robie series.
Michael Connelly, who is known for his Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller series.
John Sandford, who is known for his Prey and Virgil Flowers series.
Vince Flynn, who is known for his Mitch Rapp series.
Robert Crais, who is known for his Elvis Cole and Joe Pike series.
Jeffery Deaver, who is known for his Lincoln Rhyme and Kathryn Dance series.

Do you like any of these authors? I have read all the books of these authors and am waiting to read my favorite, the next Jack Reacher, by Lee Child.
When my boys were small, I stood frying chicken, with a book in my hand, fitting reading into my busy life as a working Mom.

LONG LIVE OUR LIBRARIES, thank you for 75 years of wonder.
Long live Kindle Unlimited at Amazon, that allows me to read as many books as I want for 10 dollars a month. What a deal...
I have to say I love reading their books, not the movies because it's so much better with my vivid imagination.
Did you watch westerns in your youth? Do you like Westerns, would you go with me to a frontier town? HERE is a link to Six Gun Territory Images.
Last but not least, are you shocked that I love and have loved Action Books/Movies my entire life?

I LOVE that you listed your favorite authors! And I agree - it's too bed there are no new westerns around today. Louis Dean and I watch a good many old ones. I like all the things YOU do! You are a more prolific reader than I but I do love a good book! What would LIFE be without them??

Hello,
I have enjoyed many of your favorite authors. The mysteries and detective series are my favorites. I do love the Kindle Unlimited but it has gone up to $11.99 plus tax. Take care, have a great day!

The thing that I remember from watching westerns as a kid is that there was always a good guy and a bad guy and there was never a doubt who was who. The good side even dressed in white (wonder what Nicki Haley would make of that?) and shot the gun out of the bad guy’s hand rather than kill him.i have not read any of the authors you cite so I am unable to comment on them.

Oh, what a fabby post for FFF!!! Right up my street... yes, I used to watch Westerns with my Dad and quite understand your nostalgia. Westerns are still being made, but are going for a kind of historical accuracy that is all good and well, but sort of misses the point a bit!

Like you, I enjoy spooks and detectives/police/forensic stuff. Lee Child (particularly the Reacher series) is a fave (am enjoying the portrayal on Amazon telly just now, too), but never really could get into Patterson or Baldacci. The others are new names to me so will have a look and and see. I have lately been enjoying Scottish authors such as Lin Anderson's Dr Rhona MacLeod books, Peter May, Stuart McBride, Ian Rankin, Val McDiarmid... then there is English author Mick Herron's fantastic Slough House spook series (which Apple TV watchers can see as an adaptation, "Slow Horses"). I have recently listened to a fantastic reading of these books on - of all things - YouTube, here is the link. I don't use Kindle unlimited as I just don't read enough to warrant the cost, but I do purchase books that I cannot get via the library service or borrow from elsewhere. Hope you have many more happy reads in 2024! YAM xx

I would love to go to a frontier town. I've always loved things like that. I used to watch a lot of westerns. Nothing like a rugged cowboy on a horse.
I don't know all those authors but there are a few that I'm familiar with. I have read James Patterson.

I have read almost every Zane Grey book...some Louis lamour...my favorite of the latter was not a Western..The Last of the Breed. Everyone I had read it thought he planned a second book but died before he did.

I gave listened to some of the Jon Sandfird Prey series.

I have no set type of books.. I used to read a lot of books about early settling of america. A LOT of non fiction books..memoirs type.. and readvquite a few true crime.

In all my (childhood) years travelling to Florida never heard of Six Gun Territory -- but would have loved seeing the little girl you were, absorbing everything!

I never read anything by Louis or Zane, but a hard Yes(!) to Lee, James, David, and Jeffrey. I'm going to have to write down the others' names and see if 'free' samples aren't available on Prime reading. Another author I've come to love is Tess Gerritsen; her recent "Spy Coast" I really enjoyed.

Great post!

Sandra, there was similar western-themed attraction in my home state of NJ, Wild West City in Netcong, NJ, which my brother and myself visited with our parents, but only one that I can recall.

I have only read some of James Patterson's books from your list of authors - The Private and Ladies - series and not all of those. Yes, to libraries and reading on a Kindle. I do not have the Kindle Unlimited app as I can usually find a book to download (free)from the library website. The $ saved monthly by not using Kindle Unlimited is instead sent as an annual donation to the local library, so it's a win-win situation for both.

Yes we watched western shows in our home as a family when I was growing up including Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, The Rifleman, The Rebel, Maverick.

Yes, I would visit a frontier town, but not an amusement park one again. And, no, I am not shocked/surprised to read that you have enjoyed action books and movies your entire live. You have a vivid imagination and these certainly contribute to that.

Sending our best wishes to you, Bob and Beau for the coming New Year. We hope it's happy!

That really was a fun post and I loved those old time westerns too. I was really sad when Vince Flynn died, he was one of my favs but I'm glad someone picked up the ball and ran with it. Happy New Year from all of us!

This is great! I was a western fan too, so was my dad. We watched all the westerns and had many of them on British tv. I remember Glu Galagher well. Rowdy Yates from Rawhide! I had the biggest crush on him. Mum's crush was Cheyenne. We watched Wagon Train, The Virginian, Sugarfoot, and so many more. Now like you I have moved on to other shows but I still catch an old western when I can.

Yes, I loved westerns when I was a kid. Especially Roy Rogers, which was probably before your time? Also the Lone Ranger. Yes, I dreamed about being a cowboy, not a cowgirl.

I'm not shocked since I already knew that about you :) Nver loved westerns or action movies myself, though. But back in my childhood we had only one TV channel (in my teens increased to two) and occasionally it happened that we did watch a western movie or series (if that was what there was to see). No books like that on my favourites lists over the years, and no westerns among my DVDs either.
