My photo of the tree that died from i think 2016 |
These trees are Gumbo Limbo trees, the monster tree that was hundreds of years old, died a few years ago, they tried to save it, from disease.
The Park photos of the tree that died HERE!
My photo of the tree from 2009 |
Gumbo Limbo Tree (Bursera simaruba) are the most fascinating of trees here in our city.
The story of the trees in a prior post from 2009 is HERE... check this link if you have time.
The photos below are my photos from Feb 10, 2024
These are current photos of the Gumbo Limbos that are still thriving and are the first thing you see when entering the park.
Today ends the photos from last week, I will make another trip to do the current trails.

They are rather majestic, and thanks for the link telling us more about them. YAM xx
Those trees are amazing. I imagine that ones like that first one are favorites of kids who like to climb. That last picture looks like there is a little stick man holding on to the bottom branch.
Hello,
I love those trees, I am glad they are thriving now.
The tree in the photo from 2009 is beautiful.
Take care, have a great day!
Today I learned something new. I didn't know the name of those trees. Now I do. Neat. Thanks for sharing. Such a pretty view too. Blessings.
What a beautiful Gumbo tree.
I will ask GiGi Google if we have them at our coast.

Gumbo Limbo trees are a soft wood tropical climate tree native to Southern Florida and the Caribbean. They exist only in temperate tropical climates and do not usually grow further north than the Southern Tampa bay region of Florida.
I do love their smooth bark and amazing size.
Beautiful tree and lovely sky blue - thank you very much.
It reminds me - I have to go to Pillnitz Castle, where the camellia tree is starting to bloom.
A hug for you.
Such beautiful trees and great photos! Thanks for the links.
I love big old trees and these are really amazing.
I think if I had been there, I might have cried for that tree! I just love it.
What a heartbreak for those workers who faithfully tended to the Gumbo tree and tried to save it!
I may be north of 70, but would have been tempted to try and climb its branches -- and gone after the Tylenol later. Some things are jsut worth it.
I enjoyed all these images; thank you for taking us along!
What a gorgeous species of tree... It's so sad to see even one of them die.
I love that tree - dead or alive - I hope they leave it there for a few more years.
What amazing Limb-o's that tree had. So sad it died but glad there are others still going strong.
Can't wait for the next installment of DeSoto 2024.

It was GORGEOUS!!! I'm so glad there are others there. I spent quite awhile Googling what the name means, thinking of doing the limbo dance. No luck. It was named by a man and it means a foreign word. That word means the same as the tree, so it went in a circle and back.
What fascinating these Gumbo Limbo trees are from someone who has never seen them except on your blog posts, Sandra. It was a shame about the one that died, but glad there are others for you to enjoy and share here.
Those trees are all amazing, WOW!
I love those trees! I'm sad about the one that died. When we were in Ithaca they lost a lot of their elms because of disease, and walking to the campus I was jolted by the different light even when I was thinking of something else. One of the trees had died and had been removed. 😒
Wow! Beautiul trees and awesome photos ~ thanks,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
