Wednesday Sept. 25, 2024, sunrise above while walking south, the sun rise was in the east and I had to stop and turn to watch, we were walking away from home with Beau and below is when we turned back towards the East and home.
Hurricane Helene was just heading into the gulf of Mexico, pink sky in the morning, sailors take warning.
We has been sideswiped by Helene and without Power for 3 days... it tooks 5 days to clean up the mess she made...
Fast forward, three short weeks to the day, on Oct 9, 2024 Hurricane slammed into us. Still reeling from Helene's damage that devastated 16 of our states as a 100 year storm, and the 2nd 100 year storm came calling.
It took 8 days to clean up and all but one of those without power and there are still our neigbors for block after block with no power and the National Guard is just down the street from Walmart doing cleanup and digging through the rubble of the trailer park that has been there my entire life.
I have been sideswiped by 9 hurricanes, in the past 40 years, but never in they eye of the storm.. Photos of our yard the next morning.
tree on chain link fence |
two of the downed fence and there are 2 more like these. I piled brush up in front of them until we can get somone to fix it because Beau is afraid of the downed trash
the bottom of the pool was full almost to the top with debris like above, and limbs. Bob dug it out, dumped in a trash can, I pushed it to the curb and pitch forked it on the pile.
the dirt in the bottom of the pool was inches deep |
Photo is the two limbs that broke from the tree and missed our house, more of what the chainsaw man did for us. He came and asked what he could do, I said our dog can't go out in the back yard, he cleared all that side of the yard. the monster tree did not fall on us.
We had no boards, Bob parked my Kia in front of the window on the world and this is what it looked like after, it saved the window
the support post of the porch is laying under its wheels, at 1:30 am I heard it slam the car in the black dark, had no idea what it was. it only broke a piece of plastic, the roof did not fall down.
the trash cans were roped to the tractors, they survived and did not go through our windows
Mail Box down, need a new one
We survived we did not die. I thought we would and we had many miracles.
of course I will tell you.

Wow! Bless the fellow who helped. Please take care of yourself as best you can. ❤️
Oh my gosh, these photos! And how on earth will you get the bottom of the pool cleaned out? What narrow misses you had!
Your first sun rays photo is gorgeous! The beauty before the beast.

Having faced similar storm shenanigans down under, I can understand the relief of neighbours with chainsaws! YAM xx
So much to clean up. It had to have been horrible living through that. Thank goodness for kind hearted people who want to help.
That must all have been so scary. You obviously took all the safety measures you could with what you had. Much to be thankful for (that it did not get even worse) and yet all this mess to deal with afterwards... Glad you got help with that tree from from the neighbour with the chainsaw!! May the miracles continue! ♥
It really is a miracle you survived and your house is still standing....to survive and see all this when it got light.
Serious but recoverable. For many, unfortunately, there will be no recovery. Stay well. I hope that life returns to a semblance of normal very soon.
Hello,
The sunrise is gorgeous, a simple pleasure!
It is sad to see all the damage, but it could have been much worse. Thank God for your neighbor with the chainsaw, it is nice to see people coming together to help each other. Take care of yourself, Beau and Bob!
Wow, it sounds like you've been through such a challenging time with Hurricane Helene and the aftermath of both storms. Those sunrises must have felt bittersweet, knowing what was coming your way. It’s incredible that you had such quick and helpful neighbors come to your aid—what a testament to community spirit!
I'm glad to hear you’re safe, despite the chaos around you. The resilience of people during these tough times is truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your experiences and the beautiful moments amid the storms. I hope the recovery process continues to go smoothly for you and your community! Check out my new blog post and let me know what you think. Wishing you a happy weekend! https://www.melodyjacob.com/
Wow, you did have a mess to clean up. So thankful to hear that you had good people come and help out. Love those chainsaw guys that appear out of nowhere and start cutting things up for us. What a blessing. Praying for you all as you continue to set things back in order. It will take time, but thankfully, God was definitely with you and protected your home and YOU from serious damage. Just take your time and deal with things as you are able. The most important thing is you are alive and well...a bit rattled, but well. That is an answer to many prayers on your behalf from many people out here. (((hugs))
I know how scary that was, it was quite scary here. Thank goodness you all are safe and thank goodness for the kindness of neighbors.
What miracles you had happened. Thank God you were okay, the man with the chainsaw helped you, and your house okay. How are you going to get all that dirt out of your pool? That looked so horrible. Two 100 year storms in a week!
I’m just relieved you’re both alive and able to write about it. That is healing. ❤️🩹
You had so many things to clean up. Debris everywhere you look. I can't believe all the clean up you had to do. I guess in an emergency like this we get some special powers to work through it. I'm very impressed with what you and Bob accomplished. I'm glad you were able to work out something to keep Beau safe in the yard. God Bless both of you.
So grateful you 3 are safe and have had miracles to share. Bless those with chain saws and helping you. Wow, that porch pole was close but your car really was a life saver.
Just keep plugging along. Love you friend

Oh wow ... WOW. God bless that unknown neighbor who pitched in. I never would have thought about tying the garbage cans together like that, and putting your car in front of the picture window is brilliant.
Count me among those giving Him all the praise for keeping you 3 safe.
These storms were monsters. Y'all are so fortunate to not only be alive but able to still live in the house. Praise God! Our neighbors and friends were super wonderful too. We all pulled together and got through this thing. I appreciate them all so much. So happy that all 3 of you are OK. Praying that there will be no more storms during our lifetimes. Whew. What a mess!
Love.
What a beautiful sunrise...reminds me of the saying red skies in the morning, sailors take warning, red skies a night a sailor's delight. Those red skies the day before Helene hit were a warning...I guess.
I am so sorry about all that damage. How do you clean out the dirt in the pool?
Hugs cecilia
Just re read about the pool clean up pitchforks are a necessity
It is so sad to see such terrible devastation and to know how much work it was for you and Bob. Thank the Lord you had a neighbor who recognized that you could use some help. All the best.

Relieved you made it through all the devastation Sandra. I am trying to imagine what it was like for you living through that. Gives me the chills thinking about what you dealt with. You have great neighbors in those two who came over to help. So sorry about all the clean up. You must be exhausted.
I cannot begin to imagine how scary these hurricanes were as I have never gone through any disasters. Thank goodness for people helping out and hope that you, Bob and Beau will take some time to rest and recover. I appreciate that you took the time to show us what happened.
I just cannot imagine all that you guys have been through...These pictures really depict the devastation in your area. Very thankful that you all are safe. Glad to hear that you had help. There are a lot of good people in this world. Prayers for you all as you continue cleaning up and work to get all the dirt and mud out of your pool. Asking God's favor to be with you.
I can't even imagine the fear you must have been feeling. I thank God you and Bob are alive, and your house is still standing.
Oh my - You've certainly gone through a tremendous experience here. I can't even imagine how frightening that had to be. I'm just so thankful you all made it through and are trying to put things back in order. My thoughts and prayers continue for you as you recover from this.
