I love Pelicans, archive Dive for David G

This post is for David G, at Travels with Birds.  I wanted you to know I used to take photos of birds and that one of my favorites is the Pelican. I also love wood storks HERE . I used to have a REAL camera with a long and a short lens, and I used to do what you do, and wander in the woods...  Don't worry, I have lots more Art Work to share next week. he he he

“A wonderful bird is the Pelican.

His beak can hold more than his belly can.

He can hold in his beak

Enough food for a week!

But I'll be darned if I know how the hellican?”

These are amazing. I especially love the ones of the stork flying away. You froze him in motion. Fantastic.

Thank you very much, Sandra. These are wonderful pictures of a fascinating bird that I never tire of seeing. They don’t occur where I live, so the pleasure is enhanced when I do meet up with them. I hope that your recovery from the hurricanes is continuing to go well. David xo

I think they are such cool birds. My wife is afraid of birds. We were in Clearwater one time and a pelican chased her all the way down the pier!

Aw, I remember how those characters used to tickle me ... just by being themselves. That frist one looks like he's laughing at you.
What memories you've awakened, and now I wish I could see them up close and personal again.

Great photos. We don't have pelicans here so I've never seen one IRL.

Those are good photos. We like photographing birds also. They're one of our favorite subjects. Having lived near many water sources (Titusville then Jacksonville, Florida) in the 50s-90s, I've watched a lot of water fowl. They are really interesting.
My husband uses two of those fancy-schmancy cameras with long lenses. He takes fantastic photos too. I only use my little yellow digital camera or the cell phone. It's still fun. 😊

I do love pelicans too and I haven't heard that poem for years.
Love the "awkward" poses and landings of those birds, especially that one taken from the backside. Its a wall hanger.

Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay is referred to as The Island of the Pelicans. We also have a maximum security prison called Pelican Bay. That’s what I think of when I hear pelicans! I do like them and they are fun to watch. On Alcatraz they are all over the place - one needs an umbrella! So are their droppings! It’s their island and they were there first!
Enjoyed your nice photography of them. Unique birds and I didn’t know they could store a weeks worth of food in their beak. Amazing.

I Love your pelican photos! I also used to do a lot more photos with my real camera, but now I've gotten lazy, and don't go as many places to see things to photograph. But I do use it still for the birds on Still Waters Pond. I enjoyed seeing your pictures. Those were fun.

Pelicans do seem very regal and did you see the one looking straight at you - giving you the snake eye?

Comical and expressive (the pelicans - great photos).
