Volunteer Moss Roses

This is the stump that was removed so the bobcat could get in the back yard. The flowers were all destroyed by Hurricanes Helene and Milton and completed by the bobcat that took our back yard tree and this stump. I did manage to save the 3 palms because I had moved them to the front yard against the wall. . 2 weeks before Helene, I took photos of our volunteer rose moss. There were 11 of them, pink, yellow and white. They just suddenly appeared, growing in the ground behind the stump and around it.
All of them were from prior years of moss rose on the stump. I had plans to pot them, but all but one were smashed to nothing by the bobcat.
I did find one still living but have no heart for transplanting it.

Bob had a really bad fall yesterday, i think from dehydration and over doing, and now has many cuts and a missing 4 inch by 3-inch sheet of skin. It looked like a bloody Halloween scene, since he is on blood thinner.  That was Wed morning and today as I type this on Friday we are up and he is slightly bloody.
Ah LIFE!
these photos have been in drafts since Oct 1st and were taken the last day of Sept.

this one has 1/3 of it that survived the Bobcat and I don't like it so it will just live where it is

they were so  beautiful all around the stump. I may take the smashed ones and throw them on the stump in the back yard

the umbrellas palm survived the storms as did the 2 small palms

Glad to hear you are both up and walking around! That in itself is a small miracle. NO, a BIG miracle!

Best wishes for those surgeries to come...that they might take care of them once and for all.
And ouch for Bob, falls are the pits, for sure.Hope his injury stops bleeding and heals well with no infection, etc. Bew careful, don't want to hear about broken bones!

That's so sad about the pretty volunteer moss roses. Idf the root system is still in the ground, maybe they will come back once again. Those bobcats have no regasrd for the turf they go across...I know too well...

That's so sad about your plants. Fingers crossed some will come back. I'm sorry about your cancers, and about Bob's fall. I too am glad he didn't break any bones!

That fall sounds especially nasty and I hope that Bob does not suffer long term issues with it. Healing is more difficult with advancing years. I know it’s probably of little comfort but the garden will take care of itself over time. It won’t look like it did before the bobcat marauders took care of things, but it will rebound. Take good care - David

That's such a shame that the bobcat took out the stump and destroyed all those flowers. I so enjoyed seeing them in your posts.
I hope Bob is better soon. Hopefully he's careful not to get it infected.

I hope Bob is ok after his fall, sending healing prayers.
It is sad you lost your beautiful flowers and plants.
They may grow in a new spot! Take care, enjoy your day and have a happy weekend.

I'm with David, the garden will recover and probably faster than you think. Taking care of your own 'territory' ie bodies is the priority! YAM xx

Hope Bob will be okay, that sounds nasty! I'm glad you managed to save the little palm trees, I hope they will grow, and that some day you will see moss roses back in your garden again too.

bleeding easily is one of the downfalls of blood thinner meds. I hope Bob is not too sore and that his skin heals quickly. The good thing about the rose moss is, it will survive almost anything. I have huge piles of it in my backyard, where just a small piece fell off and started growing its own roots. That was a big tree from the looks of the stump...I know this was a big loss in your backyard. Hoping your November brings lots of goodness your way...

I always enjoyed how the stump served as the perfect table for outofdoors. I'm sorry you lost it but very happy the moss rose lives on.

I am sorry about the volunteer moss. Maybe it will come back?
Sorry about Bob's fall too - I hope he lets you take good care of it.
Healing something that big is tough!

Oh Sandra, life keeps dealing you a lousy deck. Praying for Bob's healing and that this won't interfer with the upcoming surgery.
This getting old is not for the faint of heart.
Poor moss roses too. Glad some things survived.

I'm always amazed at the tenacity of plants. While mine never do what I hope, those that live outdoors flourish. Maybe there's a life lesson there?
I'm hoping Bob's pain levels aren't too awful and he heals sooner (rather than later). Lifting my prayers for you both!

I marvel at your resilience. You've been through such an upheaval. I was sorry to hear about Bob's fall and the treatment you are going through for skin cancer. The rock roses are doing well for you. I hope they give you joy and satisfaction they have survived during these hard times for you and Bob.

Oh those falls can be so dangerous as we age. I pray he recovers from the fall completely. Please keep an eye on infection. I know losing the flowers, trees and plants are heartbreaking since we do tend to be creatures of habit - we love seeing the familiar but soon, a new remnant will grow and in a way, you never imagined, new beauty will transform your yard.
Meanwhile, Take care of yourself and Bob. 🙏🏻

You two be careful down there. A fall and being on bloodthinners is nothing to mess with. Hugs.

Very sorry about Bob's fall. The whole thing has been a complete nightmare for you. I'm glad at least the palms are there but so sorry about everything else.

Poor Bob, prayers for quick healing!

I am SOOOO glad you got all these pictures of the beautiful plants you lost(I'm sure you are too!)

Oh, hope your hubby's boo boos heal well. That sounds painful. The little moss roses on the ground may come back on their own. I have wild ones all over the place. The ones I had in a pot seem to be dying back now...probably from lack of rain and me not watering them. I may go dump them somewhere that they might take off and grow wild. Praying for you both to recover emotionally and physically from all you've been through. I know it is hard. (((HUGS)))

I feel so bad that you lost that stump and moss roses. I do think you should plant the one you found. I am glad that Bob is doing okay. I can relate to his cut. That happens to me too but much smaller. That was a bad one he had. Take care.
