We have new hearing aids. As of 3 days ago, All Three of Us have Happy Ears. The man can hear, the woman can hear herself think, the dog can sleep without his dog sensitive ears hurting. Long story short, just the facts. ha ha .
Those of you who might want details, the story is below.
Bob refuses all tests, any and all, health related tests are a no. Its a battle to get him to go to a doctor, he waits until he collapses and we go to ER.... Need To know Info before you read this.
13 years ago we went to Armand's, Bob took a test, and we paid 3000.00 for hearing aids. For ELEVEN years, Armand repaired those aids. 3 different times, we got new receivers at a cost of $300 each time. We got 11 years out of those 3 year aids because he refused Testing and they would not replace without the test.
2 years 4 months ago. I said to Armand, do you have anything you can sell us without a test. The answer was yes, $1500 the price, I snagged, dragged bob there to get the old RX put in them and we were good until NOW and they are dead, no sound.
In January of last year, I made and appointment for a office on our insurance, and he refused to go and I had to cancel. March 28th he stopped walking and our life went into the nosedive it has been since that day.
Every day several times a day, he demanded I take them and get them repaired. I repeatedly said, they can not be repaired, over and over and over.
I gave in 3 days before Thanksgiving I took them in and they were cleaned (story in prior Post) I told you about my trip there and how kind the doctor was. He cleaned them and sent me on my way at no charge and the words I will pray for your husband...
Two months later, one was dead, the other cutting on and off and we fought daily over the fact he could not hear. He was once again refusing to go get tested and to go to get new ones. (dementia)
I fought with Bob the entire year of 2025 , the TV hurts my ears, we scream at each other and fight and upset the dog. We can't communicate, I get MAD he gets MAD.after weeks of this, I went to bed Friday night, Jan 16 and every hour woke up fretting over hearing aids, I prayed to God for wisdom, once an hour I woke up and prayed about what to do about his aids. All week end, I prayed about what to do.
I called and got the names of places we could use our insurance, with copays, researched, and found that even with research it would be 1600 copay for 2.
The problem being, he refused to go anywhere at all to be tested and get new ones,
I talked daily to God and ask for wisdom, for an answer and I woke up on the 19th with an answer.
I told Bob, I am going to take your hearing aids to Armand's and ask if they can repair. That is all I told him.
I made this list of questions to ask, and I prayed over each question for God's help to make them understand my situation. I told God, I intended to just buy them if I could and bring them home, without telling him and that I needed strength to do this.
Jason, the doctor who was so kind last year was standing inside the door. The first thing he said was, how is your husband? He remembered the story I told him.
I held out the aids and asked the first question. Can these be repaired, and if so how much and told him why.
I did not have to ask another question. the list was not necessary, he answered all of them without me asking
He reached for the old aid box and said give me 5 minutes and I will have an answer. He came back and said, Both microphones are dead. I can replace receivers but factory only can put new microphones, it would cost more to send to factory to rebuild than they are worth. My guess would be 800.
He walked up to me and said, I have a suggestion, I don't know how much you can spend, but these, and he opened the box, are Bluetooth wireless, sell for $6000, and they have been refurbished, and I can sell them to you for 1500.00. I said he will not be able to use the Bluetooth, and his answer was, I will set them on auto on when lifted from the charger, and auto off when placed in at night. All you will have to do is put them in charger at night and out in the morning, I will show you what I do to mine before I put them in, which he did and I can do without any hassle.
He showed me his, he had the same ones for himself and said they are fantastic, the best I have ever worn. He said, we will need a new prescription, but you can take these home, bring him back and tell him we put the 13 year old prescription in them but it will need to be adjusted with them in his ears.
He said I can do the test for the new RX and he will not know he is being tested.
I bought them, brought them home, and for the first time in years the sound went for 42 to 20 on the TV and he could HEAR... with the old prescription but still a little trouble with a movie sound.
Here is the best part of all. Wed. morning, Bob was able to get into the car,
I found I could lift the wheel chair (people mover 32 lbs, not 60 lb wheelchair) in with out a problem due to all the Pioneer Woman Muscle building, and get him out at the doctor's office.
By the time I got him out of car and sitting in the chair, the doctor had come out the door and pushed him in the building and back to his desk, that was in a soundproof room, and Bob actually had fun doing the hearing test. The doctor was so kind, when Bob could not follow the instructions by pushing the button when he could hear the sound, he would say no, can't hear. He just let Bob tell him in words, not buttons , and when he repeated everything again and again, as in only in the right ear, which is what the doc said he would do, he went right on like nothing was being said.
I found out from him in the first visit that his wife and her sister are nurses and they have between them been caregivers for 4 family members in the past few years. He knew and knows what I am going through. This means in future visits he will understand the crazy things others do not
The new RX and the Bluetooth wireless is the best he has heard in his entire adult life.. also, if the TV gets to loud, we can get a box on the TV that the hearing aid will talk to...
| not that it matters much, but the refurbished came in silver, which matches his hair perfectly and I can't tell if he has them on or not..and Resound is in the top 7 of wireless Bluetooth aids. |

Hello,
Wonderful news for Bob, you and Beau!
The hearing aid providers sound great! They know their business.
It is good news about Bob getting into the car too!
Take care, have a happy day!
Hooray for new hearing aids and 6 ears that are happy, happy, happy! Big hugs from all of us.
You're prayers were answered. I'm doing a happy dance with you. Such wonderful news.
Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Big healing hugs all around and lots of scritches to handsome Beau. ♥
Hip, Hip, Hooray!!!!!
Funny, Tom's been without fully-operational aids for weeks now -- which have caused more than a little angry words within these walls. Thankfully, we've an appointment with VA Audiology tomorrow morning. All the same, I wish they (VA) had an understanding Doctor Jason on staff. He sounds like an angel; whatever they're paying him isn't enough.
I'm so happy to read your account; let the good times continue to roll!
Oh boy Sandra finally peace and quiet have returned. What wonderful news about the kind folks you encountered.
I last had my hearing checked in 2022. Had small hearing loss the doc said I was on border line of needing them. Wh.
Next month I have another hearing test.
Hugs x 3

Wow, that turned out great!
What an amazing answer to prayer! In fact, even more than you asked!! Hey, Phil has tried three different kinds of hearing aide, none work. What is the brand of these and where can I find them here? He is still hoping to find some that work.
What a great doctor you have for the hearing aids. He truly is God sent. I'm so happy for all of you.
