Coal Car pulled by Coal Burning Engine

The Steam Engine that recieved its power from burning coal , pulled 4 cars, 2 closed and 2 open. these photos show boarding the open car and the fun that a MadSnapper can find anywhere, Click on photos to see details

My friend Renee and her son wanted to watch the coal being shoveled into the fire box.

I changed the perspective by walking closer

then I noticed the ceiling and backed off to get this shot

Backed off further

the conductor warned us the engineer was about to dump the steam and blow the whistle

and dump the steam he did. They forgot to mention the cinders that covered us in fine black specks

Only the most hardy people stayed after the announcent.  The Average Person would see a long empty car, I saw Opportunity!

P.S. This is the car I hung off of  to get the gunfight photo's. Worth It All!

Words of Wisdom from Other People
“ Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow. – Imogen Cunningham

“ Nothing happens when you sit at home. I always make it a point to carry a camera with me at all times…I just shoot at what interests me at that moment. – Elliott Erwitt
A fellow bought a Labrador puppy from the pet store and named him Kodak.
That way he could say he owned a Kodak lab.
What did Cinderalla say when she left the photo store?
Someday my prints will come.

Pieces of the Train

All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this - as in other ways - they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers. Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting may change its meaning according to who is looking at it. ~John Berger

I had a staggering good walk between the cars while the train was moving.

Laughter is Good for the Soul

I certainly had fun with all the answers from yesterdays post as to what we see that would not be there in 1886.
THE ANSWERS: cars, trucks, light poles, power lines, plastic trashcan, porta potti, trash truck, folding chairs, girl in Pink dress (not period)flip flops (i missed the flip flops and the sunglasses on the outlaw) folding bench and 3 people not in period dress in the TP photo. thanks for your answers

I got this in my email today and IF YOU LIKE ADORABLE Click on This Link

What's Wrong With This Picture?

What is wrong with the picture below is these are the vehicles the Outlaws arrived in at Periwinkle Junction.

In each of the pictures today, you will find something that proves the photo was taken in 2010 NOT 1886 during a real gunfight. Can you find what does not fit in 1886?

there just might be more than one thing in each photo and some you will have to enlarge to see the details.

Disclaimer: there is no prize involved
Yes, I did see it before I snapped

Ok Blogger Buddies, I am waiting for comments and counts.

Periwinkle Junction Train Robbery

As we pulled into the small town of Periwinkle Junction, it looked very peaceful.

The peace did not last for long!

Gunfire, Robbers approached the Train climbed aboard and toted off the gold.

More Outlaws appeared in the streets

The outlaw leader in red, gave a command the other outlaw did not understand.

He acted peaceful

This marshal new better

Soon the Leader of the Outlaws lay sprawled in the streets of Periwinkle Junction

The Marshals herded the outlaws back to the train, forcing them to return the gold where they found it

Guess who was hanging over the side of the train Madly Snapping?

More proof of who was hanging over the side of the train, I Madly Snapped hanging off the side of the train for the whole gunfight

I concocted a lil ole slide show to share with you all and heh it is in all its glory.
turn yur sound up iffin you like gunfire. HA HA from MadSnapper

Five US Marshals & a Lady

As we waited to board the Steam engine train, several men in black appeared in front of the jail. Of course I went to talk and Madly Snap! I said to the man standing in front of the jail:
"Are you the sheriff that will protect us from the train robbers?" his reply:
"No, but  I am a US Marshal and I can ARREST a sheriff, and yes we are here to protect you"  WHAT FUN!

We all boarded the train and walking with us were not one but FIVE US Marshals, I figured it would be a really bad gang that would try to rob us with that many  gunfighters on board. they were all heavily armed, shotguns and pistols. I might mention here my fetish for guns. I told you I love Westerns and Lawmen but did not mention my love for guns. I learned to shoot a rifle at age 8.

We all found our seats and the train started rockin and rollin and the Marshals filled the aisles walking up and down and chatting with us.

Enter this Marshal and his Lady. (they are married in their for real life) are you asking yourself how I know that? well, of course I talked with them and questioned them. I even found out she was usually a saloon girl but due to our COLD SNAP he had to buy her the velvet dress and let her ride the train to keep warm(she said she refused to play unless he got her something warm to wear). When you see the saloon in the next post, you will understand this comment.

More Fun! every where we looked we saw our protectors and as we rode the rails suspense built!
Let me plug one of my favorite USA shows IN PLAIN SIGHT
The show is about Mary Shannon and Marshall Mann, US Marshals putting people into the witness protection program.
They don't look like these marshals, but I do love them anyway

You might notice below here that my camera kept following the one with the most guns and ammo belt, his rife had feathers hanging on it and he let me examine it.

Below is a close up of the rifle with the feathers.

*** I recieved a note through email that I am posting After the  Post so to speak. My friend has a son who is a Deputy U S Marshal and I am stating now My Post is on Deputy U S Marshals, but it is to hard to correct all above but you need to know:
These are Deputy U S Marshals. The Marshal is the one in charge of each district and is appointed by the President. Their appointment fluctuates with each Presidential election.... when a new President is elected they usually appoint a new Marshall for most districts. I placed this under True Facts. Thanks Carole
The United States Marshals Service (USMS) is a United States federal law enforcement agency within the United States Department of Justice  and is the oldest federal law enforcement agency in the United States

U.S. marshals and deputy marshals provide the Federal courts with protection while making sure the judicial system operates correctly. Their job description includes shielding Federal witnesses, transferring Federal prisoners, providing security for Federal judiciary, and supervising criminal enterprise assets in custody. They have the broadest range of authority of all Federal law enforcement agencies and work in virtually every Federal law enforcement endeavor. U.S. marshals also track and apprehend Federal fugitives.

U.S. Marshals are responsible for arresting over 55% of federal fugitives, more than all the other federal agencies combined.

The Train We Rode In On!

I love Trains and all things Western. Saturday morning I enjoyed both.
When I saw in the paper the Steam train at Florida Gulfcoast Museum was running and they expected the Hole In the Head Gang to visit, I knew I had to go
Don't forget to click on the photo to see the details enlarged.

Floridas Railroad Museum is located in Parrish, Florida only a 30 minute drive from my home. the train runs on weekends and the train IS the museum. I have loved trains my whole life . Click on Ridin The Rails to see why my archived post on why I love trains.

the month of February is Steam Engine month and for 2 days only, the word was out the train would be visited by The Hole In The Head Gang and that 5 US Marshals would be aboard the train. Saturday I picked up my friend Barbara and we headed out to ride the train and unknown adventures

As far back as I have memories, I have been an Avid Fan Of All Things Western. I devoured Zane Gray and Louis Lamour as fast as they came into the library. I am sure over my lifetime I have read thousands of westerns and watched hundreds of western movies.

for the next few post, I will share the ride, the train robbers, and of course The US Marshals (they will recieve their own post).

Above is inside of one of the cars, there were two open and two closed. NO AC or Heat in these cars. who cares? not me. Below is the outside view.

One of my fondest memories comes from Six Gun Territory, Ocala Florida. Mother took us there several times when we were growing up, even in my late teens, I still loved it, hokey though it was and since this made me think of it and the fact it closed in the 80's, I searched and found a clip of Six Gun, this will give you and idea of what we saw Saturday.
