Friday Fence-DeSoto National Memorial

Photo's taken at DeSoto National Memorial Park. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is 6 miles from my front door. the photos from the last few post, Down at the river were taken in the park. It is on the banks of the beautiful Manatee River and at the mouth of Tampa Bay.     JOIN THE FENCE FUN at Jan's Friday Fence

It is maintained by the Natl. Park Services and commemorates the 1539 landing of Hernando de Soto and the first extensive organized exploration by Europeans of what is now the southern United States (info from wikipedia )

This is the kind of place I love to explore. The fence and shelters are very interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing more.

The Spanish moss hanging down from the trees is so pretty.

Very solid, with the double layer of boards!! Love the Spanish moss being the same colour as the boards, too!

What interesting construction. Do you know if there's a purpose for the tw-sided fencing, other than strength? I taught school in Clearwater for one year and enjoyed "ratting around" Tampa.
