you might remember my wonderful EGO external hard drive I purchased 2 years and 14 days ago.
if not see Where's My Ego my photos are trapped forever in the little red eGo... Staples says NO, can't get them off....
Early AM I received Staples email 75 percent off for presidents day and wonder of wonder, they had a Toshiba on for half price.... I will get two, I says to myself....
I have LIVED AND LEARNED, put photos on TWO back up's not one...
Staples has ONE of said Toshiba's. I pay for two, bring one home, with a promise the other will appear in 5 days at my front door....(why do they only have one on sale day in stock)
I plug it in and immediately I hate it... I go GOOGLE which is always my first stop that I forgot to do BEFORE I bought... the reviews are horrible... and I find that the EGO is made by Toshiba and new one will do the same thing the ego did... which is quit 14 days after the warranty went out.
I
MORAL IS... Back up your back up.... and if you use the CLOUD to back up, read the book Cloud Crash... a technothriller by Phil Edwards, I got it free for my KINDLE... and YIKES
THE ANSWER TO YESTERDAY POST. What is bob doing?
Our microwave lives on a shelf in the place where a dishwasher should be but is not.... He is watching his bowl of oatmeal go round and round JUST in case it might boil over...
There is 480 gm of sodium in THREE olives.... YIKES

External hard drives are always a good idea. I haven't read the book Cloud Crash but I don't use the cloud. It's scary to think that all our data and files are out there in cyber space somewhere. :( But thus is the joys when you put stuff onto the internet.
Have a happy week Sandra!

Mind boggling! Good thing you know what you are doing!
good reminder. We back up our photos on 4, yes 4 external hard drives--I use the Seagate :) probably a little over kill. LOL
Going to check the info you sent yesterday. Happy Wednesday Sandra
I guess that is a good reason not to eat olives....which I don't very often. But I do like them!
I think I need to back up my photos on another Seagate! Your story scares me.
LOL. Love the photo of Bob, deep in concentration - on a bowl of oatmeal. :-)
I am in the market for an external hard drive, for the one I have, a Seagate, is just about full. I also have Carbonite online backup, but it takes so long to reclaim my photos that I want something just for my photos so that the next time my laptop crashes, I can download my documents from Carbonite and my photos from my XHD. We'll see. Anyway, yeah, two backups because at least one will fail! Grrr.
I'm still eating olives.
Sorry about the back-up-disaster...
Photos I want to keep... I blog them... Or if I can't blog them, I send them to myself, and they stay on/at Yahoo's *Home*. :-)
No clouds, etc. I don't even know what a cloud is!!!!
Ahhhh, that's what Bob was doing! :-)

for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup."
I put my photos on both my laptop and desktop computers and then for good measure I also put them on a 'stick'. So hopefully, I won't lose them! That's all this non-techy gal knows how to do.
Pretty, clean kitchen you have there and I wondered what Bob was staring at!
Well, I am glad to know he was being responsible!! :-) Fortunately, I have a son-in-law who takes care of our computer troubles. Otherwise, the trash man might find ours on one of his weekly pick ups!:-)
I would have NEVER guessed that was what Bob was doing.... Thank you for the beautiful card....I can't stop looking at it....
i currently do not back up my external drive. have considered saving files/photos to an on-line program.
now i am thinking...i have to back up my external drive, gosh, i haven't even got an external drive yet.
i am so behind.. i am not a techy gal at all!
i put my photos on my lap top but i am going to have to purchase an external hard drive asap!
I have 3 ex drives and what a mess they are with backups of each other on each of them. And I keep finished photos online too...just in case. I am sure something will go wrong one day. My seagate has been fine...I forget what the others are and since my little dog is curled up next to me I don't wanna get up to see. Good luck.
I hate figuring stuff like this out. Kudos to you. Back up your back up - wonderful advice.
So sorry about your trouble. I always worry about that. What I have been doing for many years now is sending my photos to Kodak which is now Shutterfly. Then they are also on both of my computer. So he is watching his breakfast....I was wondering!
Hope your hard drive problem gets solved.
I do back up my photos on a hard drive and need to do some more work in transferring stuff. So easy to accumulate photos in a short space of time especially when i take at least two of everything. Just in case the first was rubbish. Didn't think about backing up the back-up though. Son coming Saturday. We shall get into a huddle and do some
computer talk no doubt. Does the sodium count per gram apply to fresh olives or bottled ones?
I wouldn't have guessed what Bob was doing. I just thought he was deep in thought....ready to make another model plane.
Are a whole lot of your pictures now gone forever??? This is horrible!!! I am so sorry. Well, what are those papers and pen in front of Bob, I thought for sure he was filling out some kind of form, a trick question.
We have multiple hard drives for backup, for which I am very happy. I've been thinking about adding cloud backup as well, but I guess I need to read your book before doing anything.
I'm glad Bob is keeping an eye on his oatmeal. I'm even more glad that I don't eat many olives anymore.
Technology scares me to death. I have a thumb drive for my pictures and I back up the blog monthly.....
Does Bob watch water boil too?
LOL
Hugs C
Good reminder, it's been a while since I last did a SECOND photo back-up. I think one of my smaller back-up discs is a Seagate.
I have a Seagate...I'm sending all my photos to my walgreens account too..plus I'm gonna put on cds..
The papers on the counter fooled me...LOL I plan on putting my photo's on a hard drive. I have a back up for files through my trend security system.
One can never back-up the pictures too often . I have two hard drives and then put all my pictures on Flickr, just so they are away from my house as well.
I will be looking into Seagate.
i totally forgot about your microwave on the shelf. :)
Okay I'm gettin' that book. I have an external HD for my pictures. Although I am probably don't have as much backup as I should have.
I probably should learn from your mistake here and go out and get a new external. Mine is several years old already and it's loaded with all kinds of stuff.
While I am sure this is such a good lesson for many and would have been for me too in earlier days, I may just have reached the age (old age) where I just go through and purge my photos and everything else. I have some good ones that I will print out and frame and put on my walls, but other than that, I don't seem to have the energy to care about them.
I love seeing Bob doing just what I do with my milk that I drink when I go to bed at night. Except I stand and bend down to check and make sure it won't boil over. With my finger on the button that opens the door.
Hi Sandra, Yes---one can never have enough back-ups for our precious photos.
I never thought about a microwave being down below the counter --so would never have guessed that....
Glad we don't eat olives... Yipes!!! Speaking of sodium, we don't use it anymore. We use seasalt --and in fact, we bought some almonds at Walmart which are seasoned with seasalt. YUM...
Hugs,
Betsy
Ha, weren't we just talking about this the other day. Always check the reviews first. Just how dead is your eGo? Does it still show up on the computer as a mass storage drive? There should be a way to retrieve the files.
I never thought about a microwave under the counter. I thought he was looking at the dishwasher or something.
I use double back ups also, in addition to everything on my PC hard drive also. I rotate one portable drive to the safe deposit box. I can recommend Western Digital portable hard drives. I've used them for several years. Trust no one with your data but yourself. No clouds for me.
Learn is what we must do constantly. and this tech age has some issues. Back ups are really smart. Best is to use several different options.
