If you were wondering what this is, it is one strand I pulled off of the pod below that our
Caryota or Fish Tail Palm has on it right now...

Below shows shows all the stages of the pods
The odd thing is, the squirrels love all the palm found berries but never touch these, neither do any of the other critters. The pods just go through the stages and fall off on the ground.

OH MY YOU HAVE THE MOST UNUSUAL PLANTS AND FLOWERS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A POMGRANTE SEED.

This is amazing! But why the name?
they're really cool - especially in 'bloom'!
what a fascinating plant that is. I'm wondering the same thing as Ginny, why fishtail palm. It doesn't look like a fish tail to me
I haven't seen one like that before. Love the different stages and how it drapes along the tree trunk.
Must be poisonous for the critters to not bother them when they eat everything else in your yard!
What an awesome plant, Sandra!!!!...:)JP
Love the close up and all the pictures of the stages it goes through!
Very interesting that they leave it alone. I love the pictures in stages.
These photo's are really great...they remind me of looking at pictures of close ups of bugs that look like aliens from another plant.
Great pictures Sandra. I recognize this palm from ones I've seen in Florida, but have never seen it blooming before. It's real pretty.
How pretty! Good job catching all the phases.
They are pretty berries. Strange that the critters don't like them, We have a similar one but it doesn't have the yellow bits. Just strands of red berries.
We agree, why the name? Are they poisonous to critters? Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
If I ever get to your area, I want to tour your garden!!
Best,
Bonnie
So unusual!
they're really pretty! I wonder if they're poisonous? Critters usually know what's safe.
it feels like fall here this morning!
Again a plant that I would never see if it weren't for you. Interesting.
Neat buds/pods. Funny they aren't interesting to the squirrels, etc. They are pretty though. There's a yard with date palms down the street, and those are pretty cool too.
Thank you for these great pictures. I have never seen anything like this. I must say you do give us some very interesting things to see. Thank you so much, Sandra. without you, I would never be able to see these things.!
You have such beautiful and interesting plants at your place sweet Sandra. I am happy you share them I enjoy all plants and will never get to visit FL to see these beauties. Hugs
No kidding, that is the most interesting plant! As I said before, you do have the most interesting foliage! Wow.
An interesting, unusual plant. Since all critters leave it alone it probably has some toxic qualities.
I have never seen anything like this!! You have the coolest plants!
That is one unusual and fascinating plant.
Neat looking flowers too once the pods break open and I like the color.
That is one interesting plant! Glad you shared!!
What a beautiful plant. I really like the color in the later stage and those little yellow petals. I (must have been the only one) did click on the link and I see how it got it's name.
