Good Fence Thursday

Side Yard Fence with a few weeds and shadows. The weeds are singing

Me and My shadow,
all alone and feeling blue..
We climb the stair fence
We never knock

'Cause nobody's there
Just me and my shadow
All alone and feeling blue

Dypsis lutescens in our yard..

You may be familiar with the Cane Palm (dypsis lutescens) seen in homes and offices and malls as decorative potted palms.

Be Aware, if planted in the ground in sub tropic Florida it can and will grow to 40 feet and will spread as far as you let it....
While researching for the name of this palm I found this site called www.lovetoknow.com .
Click here for Palm ID and HERE for my CAT LOVING FRIENDS

www.lovetoknow.com is really cool and has something for everyone.

Jakes favorite place in our yard is under and through and behind this large group of palms.. the possums and raccoons and a few rats have been know to love this plant to.  I love taking photos of the fronds. the below photos are to show you just how tall it is...we all three LOVE our Jungle...

Ghost in the house...

Can you find the ghost of Bob?? His favorite glass was sitting on the counter and I had an idea for a POST... to tell the story I needed a photo... When I realized he was IN THE GLASS, I Snapped! Twice.
Can you see the Hand ON The HIP pose when he realized the camera was aimed at him? I think he looks quite handsome as a ghost in a glass....

Bob loves his glass, we have had it for years and years. For some reason, people who drive down the street love to see if they can break glass in our drive way. Sometimes they leave a 6 pack of bottles sitting there, sometimes they break beer bottles and sometimes they just throw whatever out. Bob has 2 towels, 2 t-shirts and this glass that he SAVED.   It was Meant To Be for him to save this glass, because someone threw it in the middle of the concrete driveway and it survived...  Now I wish someone would throw a new computer out there for me.....

Question for dog owners

Jake has played chase the tennis ball for 11 years, he is part Boxer and is now having hip problems. He always ran full tilt on the concrete deck. Now he can't. We play soft and easy, with Mommy throwing because Daddy can't throw a underhanded SOFT throw... Jake can only run in dirt/grass and not full tilt and jump in air and grab... He is like Mommy now, struggles to get up, stiff but ok once he moves around.
Games anyone? NON active games for an Active Pup

Do any of you have any ideas how an active dog can play without being active? he wants to play, I need ideas. We do tug a rope, and 3 easy rolls of the tennis ball, walking around the block...

This is Our Life...

This is our  Life . We live in Florida, we have a pool. The sun shines almost every day..

My cameras live on the kitchen table ready to grab and Fire Away... I saw the sun in the hair and Bam!  Bob never even knew he was under fire....

In 1984 we drove to Savannah GA for Bob to meet my parents. They were standing in the yard when we drove in. We got out of the car, and the first words out of Mother's mouth were... "all that HAIR" (if you know the southern accent kind of sing the word hair up in a question mark)

Yesterday, I removed the bathing suit, shook it well (lizards love suits and towels) and stepped inside to put it on....
PLOP! and right in the middle of the ceramic tile was a 6 inch long male lizard.
who was stunned the most was the question...
Lucky me, the other part of me, sprang into action and scooped him up before Jake could swallow or i could scream and put him back where he belonged.

Portavant Indian Mound 2

I sat down for a rest after a long walk and realized the sun was painting the deck and leaves. The deck covers a large portion of the mound to protect it. Climbing on the mound is not allowed.

all points of the compass from the top of the mound are moss hung oaks over 100 years old

We saw hundreds or oranges, growing in among the oaks and palms, un-reachable now that the mound is protected.

Per the sign below, in 1869 the Griffith's built there house on top of the mound and planted 200 orange and lemon trees, and 400 banana plants. the grand children of those plants still live here.

Portavant Indian Mound 1

This week is National Parks Week...Click HERE  to find the park closest toyou... get out and enjoy a park week.. If you have park photos, this week is the week to share them...

The walk up on top of the Portavant Temple Mound is steep, I could not get the whole view in one shot.
The mound is SW Florida's largest native American Temple Mound...the mound is 1200 years old.
Click Here    for the Trail of Florida's Indian Heritage and more info on this mound.

Below I combined two first photos to show the scope of the mound. click on photo to enlarge.

Emerson Point is a state owned park and is a protected State Archaeological Site and NOTHING can be removed, that includes shells, rocks, moss etc...

Up on the deck above and looking up from the deck below...

Spanish Moss in all the trees

Down the other side, the same but different .........to be continued

Flamingo Fun part 2 2009

Flamingos are hilarious to watch, busy clicking away I glanced at my camera case I had laid on the bench, and what to my wondering eyes did appear
one flamingo very busy unloading the paper from my bag. He/She pulled out each paper and dropped it on the ground. I regret I can't find the picture I took of the papers on the ground.
Flamingos are always great if you need a smile. Humor is their thing.
Flamingos like company and the more the merrier. Flamingos live in groups called colonies. They won’t nest unless there are other flamingos around. Both male and female flamingos mound up mud for a nest for their 1 egg and take turns incubating it. When chicks hatch, their down is gray or white

Twist-preen— The bird twists its neck back and appears to preen its feathers with its bill quickly.
During the day flamingos preen using their bills and spreading oil from a gland near the base of their tail through their feathers. They spend 15 to 30% of the day preening.

Standing on one leg is their most comfortable position.

Grown flamingos have few natural predators. Of course that does not rule out the unnatural predators, HUMANS.
