Portavant Indian Mound 1

This week is National Parks Week...Click HERE  to find the park closest toyou... get out and enjoy a park week.. If you have park photos, this week is the week to share them...

The walk up on top of the Portavant Temple Mound is steep, I could not get the whole view in one shot.
The mound is SW Florida's largest native American Temple Mound...the mound is 1200 years old.
Click Here    for the Trail of Florida's Indian Heritage and more info on this mound.

Below I combined two first photos to show the scope of the mound. click on photo to enlarge.

Emerson Point is a state owned park and is a protected State Archaeological Site and NOTHING can be removed, that includes shells, rocks, moss etc...

Up on the deck above and looking up from the deck below...

Spanish Moss in all the trees

Down the other side, the same but different .........to be continued

It's so pretty there. I think I would have a hard time resisting grabbing some of the spanish moss off the trees

Your photos are amazing. I remember seeing the Spanish moss on the trees when my family would vacation in FL when I was a child.

What a beautiful park!! I'm going to check and see if we have any National Parks around here, most of ours are State or County parks.

That looks like a wonderful boardwalk walk! And the trees are beautiful - and a little spooky! :-) I'm taking my walk out to the clothesline. Washing sheets again today to get beds ready for weekend company. Then I hope to spend time outdoors just enjoying our marvelous weather.

Beautiful pictures! There are some native American mounds not far from my house and they look a lot like this, but on a smaller scale.

I don't know why but Spanish moss hanging from trees seems a little creepy to me!! My favorite photo tonight is the one of Bob!!! We used to go to a couple of State Parks here like Cedar Hill State Park which is only a half hour away!!

That must have been a great walk. I remember going to Florida and enjoying all that Spaish Moss hanging from the trees. Such a picturesque state.
