Grime and Punishment..

See the top cabinet over the fridge? it was full of all this junk.. Since I don't do well on step ladders, none of it had been touched in about 3 years..

Think GRIME and Punishment.

Bob braved the ladder and hand it down. He said.. How long since you cleaned the top of the fridge?

I snarled said:  the dust bunnies killed my cleaning fairy and  if I can't reach the cabinet I can't reach the top of the fridge. He cleaned it for me, even pulled out the fridge to reach the back and cleaned UNDER the fridge.

I washed it all by hand, no dishwasher in our house but ME.  I wrapped every single piece except for the items below, and even wrapped a few from the nook, make that 8 things from the nook. It all now resides at Good will. The cabinet now holds 7 items.

I kept these.  2 of the candle holders above and 2 of the glass thingy that hold flowers in a bowl. 2 of the candle holders below

Mothers green vase is 10 dollars on Ebay, from the 70's and my grandmothers pitcher from the 50's goes for 20.00. PHOTO LATER on the pitcher. I kept them for the future when I get hungry, I figure by then they will buy a loaf of bread.

UPDATE from Gayle at ventures in photos... the flower thingy is a Vintage Flower Frog Glass Floral Arranger

We have never had a dishwasher either. I do all the cooking and Phil does the dishes. It is a good system. I was going to say to give them away if you hadn't used them in three years. Good for you!! Sometimes I think I have the potential to be a hoarder, so now I have been really going through the house and being ruthless! We have taken bags and bags and boxes to Goodwill. It's only fair, since they provide me with my wardrobe. I think you gave away the right items. A tip for high places like this is to put a piece of plastic wrap on it. Then when it gets dusty, just take the plastic off and replace it. I have the same cabinet over the fridge. Even Phil has to get up on a chair to reach most of it. Even of you keep stuff INSIDE the cabinet, it still gets sticky with dust!! What's up with that!!

Its a good idea to start decluttering. When and if you have to move it will be so much easier. I wish I had. I can be ruthless but Bill holds me back,,,"we might need that one day" DOH!

Good morning Sandra! We have a dishwasher and do not use it. My hubby always like to wash the dishes, isn't that nice. I dry and put them away. I went crazy giving stuff to the Goodwill. Enjoy your day, Happy Monday!

It feels good to declutter. I love the special pieces you kept. Like Ginny, I have a couple of bags ready to take to Goodwill. My niece that is moving tomorrow, said when she gets moved, she is giving away a lot of JUNK! lol

We don't have a dishwasher either. I also like clearing away stuff... It makes me feel lighter.,, ps funnily enough the girls have never asked for more siblings... Maybe they sense our family is complete... I also had a serious complication postpartum which lead to a hysterectomy so the only way we can have more children would be through adoption or surrogacy.

Ohhhh you can come to my house now!! I'll gladly climb the ladder too.
I won't even talk about the top of my fridge or what is behind it.
The fridge sits in a cubby especially for it. Trying to pull it out would take a contortionist since the bar would be in the way. It can be done but not sure we two seniors can do it.
LOL

Ah, a minimalist in the making. Three years--yep time to go. Of course it's my experience that within the next three years I will regret letting go of some of it.
The thing to hold flower stems is called a 'frog'.
Add me to the list of no dishwasher.

I decluttered 100 percent when I moved into the apt . I asked my adults if they want like you have on your blog.

No thanks they replied.

Gone are the days for silver or glass and vases.

I took a couple of things
on the move.

The rest is in the one cupboard here. Why did I bring them.

We don't get all fussed up with company like we used too and besides no room for the wicket.

Soon I will give them to a place whom are into all this . People who still enjoy it. Hoarders Ha.ha

the flower arranger is cool! the green vase is beautiful! I love glass and crystal.
as far as cleaning, back in Orlando when I had a cleaning business, my girls would send me pics from move-out cleanings and you can't believe what people don't clean...disgusting. lol!
I keep most of my glass & crystal in large curio cabinet. I'll take some pics one day. :) I've packed about half of it and I did take a pic before packing or else I would never remember how I had everything arranged. :)

Good for you! I need to do that too. I love the flower arranger.

See, you are not only a champion blogger, but now happy that these saved pieces (which are beautiful!!!) are sparkling. Perhaps it's time for the Pres to pull out my frig too. We always do that stuff in mid-Winter..:)JP

Lots of people are in cleaning out mode. Most of the stuff I've gotten rid of just went in the trash. I didn't want to leave it sitting around waiting to go to goodwill because I was afraid it would make it's way back in to a closet or something

Feels good when you're done, doesn't it? I just finished my bookcases and am now in the bathroom working away. Then I will tackle the kitchen, which will be BIG! The top cabinets are OK, but the bottom, yacky....Congrats on doing a great job, Sandra. And Bob too.

I have a dishwasher, but only use it every two or three weeks. With just the two of us, it is easier to do them. But when Lorelei was a baby and I kept her, I used it a lot.

Those things look so sparkly and clean....

It must be cleaning time.Since my cabinets have been painted,I took all the stuff down that was on top of them. More correctly,Kai got on the counter and then handed it all to me.I have decided that none of it is going back up there.I like the clean uncluttered look I see now.Good for you to get rid of some of the things.I will be doing the same.

It must be that time of year. I'm about to delve into the cabinet above my fridge too!

Ah, beware the murderous dust bunnies! (You crack me up!)
I, too, have glassware stored here-there-and-everywhere, most likely in dire need of a bath.
That green vase is so pretty!

You are cleaning up!! I have some cupboards I seldom even open! I really should address them. But right now I am just too tired!

You've certainly mastered lighting the glass. Exquisite! I hope you never have to sell your treasures for a loaf of bread.
