TOPS good news bad news

The past two weeks at TOPS (take off pounds sensibly) I was down .6 (six tenths) of a pound each week. I was BUMMED.. I weighed on Wed and was down 2 pounds. Thursday am, only down .6.
I had been losing at least 1 or 2 pounds a week. now 2 weeks in a row I gained 1.4 over night.

Our guest speaker, a life time member of Weight Watchers taught us how to read labels.

After the meeting I pulled out  Orrville Redenbacher Simply Salted Seasalt in a bag that is ready to eat after 2 minutes in the microwave.  The above is the label from that popcorn.

one bag, 2800 gr salt, 170 calories 100 from fat, 7 servings + 1200 calories. Total Water Retention 1.4 pounds over night.

GOOD NEWS IS. I was down 2 pounds this Thursday and that is a total of 19.. woo hoo

I had to go buy a popcorn popper and a jar of popcorn... because

Air-popped popcorn contains only 31 calories per cup. MYNEW problem is it taste like dirt without salt. any ideas??????  the new pot is for veggies, I only had 2 large pots and 1 small because I HATE COOKING... but I am doing it. COOKING I mean. as little as possible.

I'm so glad you found the culprit! You are doing so great! Sorry, I can't think of a single topping! I buy things in those 100 calorie bags, then eat a half bag if I really have to have a snack. Or 5 jellybeans. There is a frozen mint ice cream bar dipped in chocolate, it is delicious and only 60 calories. They are awesome and I have eaten dozens of boxes.

Congrats on the weight loss. Great job. I just googled healthy toppings for popcorn. The only one that sounded appealing to me was to sprinkle apple pie spice on the popcorn.

When I'm dieting I can only weigh myself once a week. If I weigh every day I get discouraged by the up and down numbers. Congratulations on that total though, that's very impressive. Keep up the good work.
I used to have an air popper years ago but got rid of it for some reason. I was just talking about it to Wade the other night when he was making his jiffy pop popcorn. Personally I prefer Orville Redenbacher kettle corn in the single serve microwave bags.

It's good to know I am not the only one who hates cooking. I used to love it when all of the family were at home but now i will do anything to get out of it.
Well done with the weight loss.

Happy Friday. Keep up the good work. Great loss. Now keep telling yourself it is not a diet but learning to eat Healthy for a Healthy Life.

I am doing good myself. A pound a week . I would lose more if I could drink 8 glasses of water my surgeon said. And that is not counting tea or coffee. I am faithful for sure exercise faithfully the exercises.
Three times a week considering am walking bone on bone.

Know matter what you look at . So many things on food packages are high. You do good on one and another one is listed. As you will notice.

Salt and sugar is in everything you read and fat. Sugar is just as bad.

You are doing well. Better to lose one pound a week as two pounds a week . if you don't lose the two pounds a week it can make you discouraged.

How many calories are you on? That helps as how much you will be losing each week.

If you google a calorie counter.
It will tell you for your age and weight if you fill in free how many calories you should be obtaining.
I know for one thing. The number of calories you have. You must eat that amount of food. You go less. You will not lose the weight each week say one pound. I found that out. The third week.

And exercise 3 times a week. Steady.
Protein at every meal like egg.

Meat 2 to 3 ounces. Not less. Meat of some kind or fish Veggies and fruit for supper and lunch a soup home made or a sandwich. Yogurt with fruit at lunch. Milk 3 times a day.

Anything you buy one has to look for salt. For sure.
Salt is bad.

All this make not just a diet but learning to eat healthy.

I have to eat this way for my knee surgery. In a couple of weeks I get to meet a dietitian and the anesthesia's. One to one.

I am so glad the hospital I am going too. The whole staff is 100% beside us all the way.
Learning to eat healthy and exercises as if not. Your legs will go stiffer to a point you will be in big trouble.

Congrats Sandra.
I enjoy your posts and humour. Humour is a good medicine to your soul.

Way to go on the weight loss...I cannot imagine what to put on the popcorn. I know some people put garlic powder, and seems like I have heard of cinnamon also.

We air pop our corn. It is amazing when you start watching salt....it is in everything! I watch it with my heart now and also on my TLC diet for my heart I'm not supposed to eat anything with more than 7 fats in it. Of course the polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are good ones in moderation.

yay! congrats on the weight loss!
my favorite snack of late is air-popped popcorn. i like savory popcorn toppings. here's an idea: oregano, red pepper flakes, fennel, and basil with olive oil.

enjoy your weekend!

It is astounding how much sodium is in products. That is why I try to make everything homemade. But I think that popcorn takes the cake for highest sodium.
Congrats on the weight loss!

Like everyone else...congratulations on your weight loss.
Hubby and I have pretty much cut out salt but packaged foods are so full of it.
Sometimes it's just training your tastebuds to not crave it. Body needs some though.
When we want popcorn we have a bag of Skinny Pop (I get mine from CostCo. A serving is 3 3/4 cups.
150 calories, 1 gram saturated fat, 75 mg sodium, 0 sugars.
I never eat that much of it but it does satisfy a craving.
Really not suppose to eat the corn products because they convert to sugar in my body. Once in a while doesn't hurt me too much.
Try the spray butter. It does give flavor without all the heavy fat.
Keep up the good work.

Gaining is so easy. No counting calories or reading labels!! Losing not so much. Right now I am on 60-90 grams of protein a day and 500 calories! I am down 34 now since my bypass surgery process. I tried WW three times with no luck. I wish you all the best in your journey!

congrats on the weight loss!!! I've gained weight with the hashimoto and estrogen dominance, you know the story. :( I normally wear size 4 to 6 and now I'm wearing size 10 in jeans and freaking out. lol
I'm not a popcorn eater unless I'm at the movies and then I just eat a little. :)

Congrats Sandra and we know how hard and frustrating it can be to feel you are eating right and then learn you've gained or not lost anything at all. It happens to us as well and yes, we do read labels all the time and have not bought a lot of products because (1) they have too many things we don't understand in them, i.e. chemicals or (2) they have way too much sodium. As for the popcorn, I have heard that soe folks like to put pepper on it, but never tried that myself.

How frustrating! (Take that from someone who used to weight herself 2-3 times a day.) Ya, I'm extremely susceptible to sodium and tend to swell up like a sponge.
I never thought I'd ever (ever!) catch myself saying this ... but to quote my mom, "As long as you're feeling well, don't worry about what the scale says."
