REPOST of Memorial Day 2015..
In 1868 the 30th of May was declared Declaration Day, to honor all the soldiers who died in the War Between The States, known as The Civil War.
7th Volunteer Company, Union Army Civil War Re-Enactment at our Historical Village Saturday May, 24 2015 by MadSnapper |
750,000 died in that war, the most in any of America's history. In 1971 the last Monday of May was dedicated as Memorial Day to honor the dead from all wars.
That war is sometimes called the American Apocalypse
Today we honor the fallen
This is a Link to United States military Casualties since The American Revolution, and the numbers are staggering.
And since only the dead have seen the end of war, the numbers continue to climb. God Bless our Soldiers

HEADS UP TO all of you that want your comments to come into your email... this is a workaround fix I found on a forum. It works. All you have to do is COMMENT on your own post, when you do check off the box that says send follow up emails to me. everyone that comments after that will come in your email. When the emails come in, they come as no reply, you must add the email address to reply

Wow, don't remember any of this. Great information!
Good Morning, Sandra. The numbers are staggering. My mother's dad was killed in action in WWII, she was 13 and her mom had died 5 years earlier.
I hope you guys have a good day - maybe you can go out to eat today.

I don't recall ever learning about the origin of Memorial day for the US... thank you for that enlightenment. I love that last image. Says all that is required... YAM xx
its me testing again
Happy Memorial Day. It's very say how many men and women have died serving their country.
You'll have to let me know if that worked for the comments.

Happy Memorial day to you all

Hugs Madi and mom
The American Apocalypse, indeed. That's a good one.
The only other name I've heard (spoken tongue-in-cheek) is "The War of Northern Aggression." ... But of course, the Civil War was nothing to joke about.
Thanks for the comments tip!
Good tribute post, Sandra, and we would do well to remember all those who died in service, so that it would not have been in vain.
Have a blessed Memorial Day. sandie♥
What a beautiful post! Thanks for sharing this with us all and giving us even more to be grateful for! Hugs, Diane
