Today's photos were all taken in mid day brilliant sunshine. I lowered the exposure until the flowers became sharp and the background dark.... I have started once again playing with the camera to change the photos... for the umpteenth time.... In 2006 I took a photograph online class and over the years forgot what I learned, and every year or so I try to learn again.
Do you retain what you learn?
What is the most important thing you have learned recently?
I think the reason I forget is because I don't keep using it long enough for it to become natural. Like putting on my shoes.

Very pretty. Love the purple color. Sometimes I do retain what I learn and sometimes I don't. I think it depends on how interested I am in the subject and then how often I use what I just learned.
Quite a while ago I wanted to learn about photography and I was practicing all the time. Then I got lazy and just started using the manual settings.

..."I think the reason I forget is that I don't keep using it long enough for it to become natural. Like putting on my shoes."... pretty much sums up the learning experience! What Ann says above is also true; we are inclined to retain more of that which interests us most or for which we have a natural talent. My problem is I have trouble remembering what it is I learned most recently. That is to say, that I learned anything, never mind what it was about! 8~()

Hello, your flowers and photos are beautiful. I tend to forget things I learned over the years, mostly due to not using what I learned. It doesn't help my memory is not the best either. Enjoy your day!
Yessss! If I don't use what I've learned it's gone-gone-gone. Even driving somewhere. If I'm not the one behind the wheel I've difficulty remembering how/where. What's worse? My parents made me take piano lessons for 8 years. Practice, recitals, the whole shebang. Finally, my senior year of high school they let me quit. Today, I can't read/recognize a single note of music. I tried sitting down at Tom's keyboard a couple years ago to see what I might have remembered … and felt like a total moron.
PS - Gorgeous flowers!
I love that thing that's going around about old friends who don't remember each other can not be new friends.
So the same thing here. If I can't remember something I learned to do before; now it can be something to learn anew. And I LOVE To learn.
However this short term memory thing can be exasperating.
edit my previous comment to say 'can NOW be new friends.
That last one with the fern & chain link is so very artstic. Lovin' it.
Your thoughts today remind me of 'if you don't use it, you lose it'
Birds and Blooms needs to hire you as their floral photographer.
The look real enough to touch

I have never been good at retention. I don't know how some people do it....like my son. Once is enough for him, I have to drill drill drill myself. I didn't know there was a Mexican Petunia. It is pretty. Unless I learned it once and just don't recall.
Oh my gosh, these flowers are GORGEOUS, STUNNING, BEAUTIFUL, AWESOME, and AMAZING! I am suspicious that they are not really this beautiful, that it is mostly YOU and your photography that has made them over the top. And the ferns by the fence in the sun is crazy wild! Literally wild, jungle like, and beautiful. My memory has gotten real bad because I have creeping white matter in my brain. So I don't remember real good like I used to. I cannot remember anything if I don't use it all the time, just like you said. In fact, I KNOW that I have recently learned quite a few really good things. But darned if I can remember them!!! Not remembering does have it's good side, if you forget bad things. The thing is, I never forget bad things, only everything else. I have never played with the manual part of my camera, I am afraid I would never get it back right, plus it probably wouldn't help me because you have to have the artistry, like you sure do.
I have a hard time retaining anything and it isn't because of age. I've always been this way. I could be 18 and read a line in a book and couldn't begin to tell you what I just read. Love the photos.
Sigh....this is so me....the memory isn't very good at all. Hubby says remember this or remember so and so did that and i just can't bring it to the surface.
Eventually things do resurrect themselves. So frustrating.
I guess it's like muscles...if you don't use it you loose it....
Love your flower pictures too.
Guess I am in a bit of a funk today. So many family health issues and things going on in our lives...
Think I have to get the camera out and Do Some Therapy!
You sure did a great job 're-learning'! I do the same thing...Next week we are heading on vacation, so I have been getting all my lenses out, and experimenting to refresh my memory!
Sandra, you must be remembering some of what you learned because your photos are gorgeous! That's an interesting texture on that petunia. I've never seen one like it. I can never remember how to do anything technical unless I do it regularly.
Oh yes! I forget so much now it’s frustrates me to no end. I find my sunglasses on my head when I am looking for them?? Crazy....love your backyard beauties ,
I love the effect that has on those flowers! My most recent thing I had to look up again was moving files from my phone to my micro SD card, them upload them to my computer too free up 7 GB space on my phones internal storage. My internal storage was full, all 32 GB used and things weren't working properly. Anyway that reminds me of how our first computer had a memory of 48KB. Lol. And once in England we had to buy an SD card for our camera. 64MB for 84 USD!!!
These pictures are gorgeous. I wish I could remember the things my son has told me about photography.I would be so much better at it than I am now.
I love those purple petunias! I haven't been able to think of anything to post about this week. Maybe September and fall weather will get me blogging again. Have a wonderful weekend.
You must have a real huge garden in your back yard to have all those pretty flowers - love the purple.
I think if you don't use it - we lose it.
Love, sandie
Those purple petunias are gorgeous. I planted a hanging basket with one red plant and it has filled out and lasted all Summer with many many flowers. As some die more buds open. A happy sight. At the moment I just want to stick to what I know when it comes to technical things and not learn anything new. I have to stick to the same simple routine otherwise I forget things easily and that's frustrating.
Pretty flowers and pretty ferns. The lighting is gorgeous, loving the shadows.
