NOT a Pioneer Woman..ha ha

I have no idea why, but I am now scent sensitive, it is as if I have become a Canine, a bloodhound maybe. I told Bob, maybe the airport would hire me to sniff out drugs. 😜

Bob requested Salmon Patties.  I said I don't mind making them, but I can't stand the smell in the house. The last time it took a week for me to stop smelling the Salmon.

Bob: "Cook it outside, use the burner on the Grill."
Me: "You know I don't cook with propane"
Bob: "YOU CAN COOK WITH PROPANE, IT IS NOT DANGEROUS"
ME: "If I blow myself up, who will cook for you?"

Fast Forward through the rest of the tif.  He lit the burner, I put the pan on the fire and said YOU adjust it.
I DID NOT BLOW UP!   But I thought I would die of heat stroke, it was 94 in the shade, feels like 110 at HIGH NOON...

I made him stay there with me, hoping he would take over the pan, NOT!... I muttered the whole time

How did the pioneer women cook on an open fire, in a fireplace, on the ground. I will never Camp OUT I said at one time, the wind was blowing leaves in the pan, the sweat was dripping on the ground.    SHEER MISERY cooking out side. Lesson Learned. NEVER MORE!!! Plus I now know I will NEVER be a happy camper outer

I agree! I hate camping! Not to mention flying things and spiders. My mom used to say that it has taken people hundreds of years to invent air conditioning and storm doors, then they go out in nature camping and suffer. Driving through is good for me! Maybe sitting in the front yard. I have never made salmon patties but want to. I have a couple recipes. And canned salmon. What is your recipe?

HAHAHAHA!! Louis Dean and I both love Salmon patties!! We use canned salmon and add crushed saltines, eggs and seasonings. I actually love the smell but I don't want it to hang around forever! Funny you should post this because our Sherry cannot tolerate the smell of salmon patties! She insists that if Dean wants to make them it must be when she will be away from home. She leaves on Thursday to fly up to Wisconsin to drive her parent's back in their RV from the summer place they go for their mission work. I trust the smell will be gone by the time she gets home.

I love salmon patties. Don't mind the odor. And truly crave salmon filets. But, sweating ... cooking outdoors ... heat...nope, nope, nope.

Camping is not my thing. We did it way way back when I was in my 20s but roughing it holds no appeal for me now.
I never use the burner on my grill because every time I've tried it always seemed to be too windy and the flame would go out.

Hello,

I like salmon broiled not the patties. I have not camped in years, when we did camp hubby was the cook. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend!

I love to read about pioneering times, but I am with you and dont think I would survive it.

Me, neither! 'Fraid I wouldn't have been as gracious(?) as you, tho. Tom would have to prepare it himself or go without. (Does a raw salmon patty count as sushi?)
Off to Day #2 now … be good!

Amen to not being a pioneer woman...just the heat and the bugs would have been too much not to mention the outhouse situation

Hugs and Happy Friday and thank you for your kind words on my new obsession.

I am with you. I do not care for outdoor cooking or camping. I used to like it, but that was when Mom did all the work. Dare I say,I am lazy.

I think it might have been worth it to keep the fishy smell out of the house. I also have a sensitive nose and save my seafood eating fro restaurants LOL!

I will trade noses with you. I am nose blind to some things. I would love to be able to smell the deliciate flowers everybody says smell so good.

No camping or cooking outdoors on an open fire for me as well, Sandra. We did use a BBQ grill at our NJ and VA places, but now in the NH apt -- not allowed and no place to use one (thank goodness). When we were on our long cross-country trips, folks would ask if traveled in an RV, my reply was that "yes and it's called Hampton." If they asked who made it, I told them Hilton did...as they own Hampton Inn. It was usually good for a laugh when folks finally got it.

How was the salmon, did it cook okay? I know my dad said it is so hot and this heat has been going on month, after month, after month for you guys. Sending cooler weather your way......

No camping for me. I don't like the heat. And I would not want to cook outside on it. Plus I don;t like fish. Do I sound grumpy?

I think we are the only people in our family who don't barbecue outside. We had salmon the other day but cooked it inside. It tasted great but hubby has a super-sensitive nose and said for two days he could smell the salmon afterwards, and not in a good way. What he realized later was that he was smelling the oil he cooked it in, even though things had been washed out and cleared, it apparently hung on the air like a cloud. My sense of smell is practically dormant so I never have a problem ;)

Wow all that for smell. Fresh salmon should never smell fishy. Hope Bob liked his fish patty. I have a SIL who does much cooking outside because family members have smell issues. Her issue is winter when it is way below freezing.
I was born nose sensitive. I can tell lots of smells. Some are most irking.
