Raccoon MANIA! again!

See these cute and innocent looking Raccoons? The photos are from prior post, May of 2014 HERE.
Warning, the link is full of Raccoon Porn....

For the past 8 days, 3 to 5 raccoons have been making us crazy, with noise and sudden appearances in our yard. Big can't lay still. From 6 pm until bedtime he paces and stands at the back door. he KNOWS they are out there. 3 nights ago, at midnight I heard a racket, it sounds like horses were on the roof and loud chittering.... they skipped the next night, but last night at 2:35 AM, the screeching started, all you know what broke loose. Big and I jumped from bed and raced to the back door to turn on the flood lights, which usually makes them leave.

NOT this time... they were mating!   you have NEVER heard such a racket. see below what I found on line... circled in RED because I am Red Hot over these critters. in 2014 there were two and now there are FIVE plus one of these IS HUGE and looks pregnant... we tried to have a trapper trap and remove. that did not work out. Yes, we live in the city limits, but this is Florida.

To Here The Sound go to YouTube HERE   Yes, the sound will go away when the FULL moon starts to wane, but they will not... they will be here to torment Big Boy and ME... Bob can't hear them. Big can hear every sound they make, including claws clicking on pool deck and laping of water from the pool.... Hurry winter... they sleep most of the time.

So how much longer? The sound is something else for sure, I have not heard anything like it. Naps are in order!

I'm so sorry. I hope they don't plan on nesting nearby.

Oh my, I would not want to hear the raccoons screaming. I do not even like them in my yard.

Poor Big Boy, poor you. I'm sure you can't wait for them to hibernate.

Oh my goodness!! That is just craziness and how awful for you to have to hear all that nonsense ESPECIALLY in the middle of the night!! WOW! I never knew they made so much noise when they are mating. Ive never seen a live one in our area but every so often I'll see one that has been run over which tells me we do have Raccoons. Once when we were camping by Cannon Beach we had those critters coming around our campsite and I was shocked to see how big they are. They are very bold too, they weren't shy about coming into our campsite and our boys were kinda young which made me a little nervous about them getting too close. Hopefully their marine ritual will end soon - the moon will be completely full on Tuesday night so things should calm down, crossing my fingers!! Hang in there and try to get some sleep!!!

Having had ring-tailed possums in my roof in OZ, I have sympathy for you. They don't scream quite like this, but are still jolly rambunctious!!! They did leave of their own accord, thank goodness. YAM xx

Oh my gosh, that sounds awful! I have raccoons too, but I guess they do that out in the woods behind my house because I've never heard it. Occasionally one will come up on my back patio and torment my cat. I have even been woken up by my cat trying to fight with one through the glass door.

Oh my! You really do have all the excitement.

Oh my goodness - we have raccoons here - but I don't think I have heard that - thank goodness. That was awful. Poor guy!

Oh Sandra, I had NO idea! It does sound like she's being tortured/raped, doesn't it? Poor Big is probably bewildered AND annoyed, right alongside you. Besides the flood lights and/or full moon, I wonder what might scare them away?

Oh MY! We sure hope those raccoons decide to use someone else's backyard as their bordello tonight!

Oh that would make me crazy. Not only the raccoons but the dog pacing back and forth going nuts. I wonder what is in your yard that is attracting them. Now I'm wondering what there is that might also make your yard less appealing to them but not be a danger to BB

This would be two much for me! Just hope it freezes & NO babies born in your yard (or worse your attic space).

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my word...I cannot even imagine being awakened by such noise. MS and BB bless your hearts as I know you two have excellent hearing and Dad doesn't Hugs Cecilia

It sounds more like they are fighting than mating! That is quite the racket. I hope they move elsewhere and you can sleep! Do you have to worry about them having rabies there? We do here.

I have seen a few around our area but we have more skunks than raccoons.
When we lived in Pacifica, CA we were right next to a lot of trees..they thought our homes were their playground.
They were always getting into our garbage cans and making a mess.
Hope they don't set up housekeeping in your attic and raise the young'uns...
That sound would be so unnerving.

I for one never enjoy the sound on others mating! haha.....that would drive the dogs nuts.

I did not go listen, since we are watching TV...will the city not do anything? I am sure they won't...if they are like here. Coons can really be destructive. A neighbor of Sarah's in Indy had 5-7000 dollars worth of damage from coons. And this is a nice neighborhood, houses close together, though. And you dare not let Big get into it with them....I don't know how true it is, but have heard they try to rip the stomach open when fighting dogs.

Oh my gosh, never had that happen here, though remember one person saying that she heard screaming in the woods. She called the police and they found nothing. Maybe it was raccoons. Hope so anyhow.
