We have a Mystery!

I pointed my key Fob at the Kia and nothing.
I stood at the back of the Kia, with a basket full of groceries, NOTHING.
I finally found the hidden keyhole, and opened it the old fashioned way.
I Walked to drivers side, found the key hole, and home I came.

I whined as I came in the door

"The Fob want work, you just put a new battery in it last week, it has worked fine for a whole week, I had to USE THE KEY HOLE, on all the doors. It worked yesterday when we went to the Y, it worked at the doctors office. ITS DEAD, nothing."

he says  "what did you do to it??"   fighting words they are...
I said loudly, NOTHING, I just told you it worked fine. the battery must have died.

he says "it was brand new" it did not die, did you do it the right way?"
I saw red..... how many ways are there to use a fob??????

He got the screw driver, and pried it open. IT"S EMPTY he yells
WHAT? she yells, How can it be empty?

There was more, he of the accusations of me opening it and losing it when he knows I could not open it with a screw driver because I had to beg him to do it and replace the battery.

SOOO! how could I open it, even if I could, and lose the battery and close it again and NOT KNOW IT?
The mystery remains, the battery is gone, neither of us did it, and we have no idea where that battery is.   Ghosts? Poltergeist?
Yes, we had another battery and it works fine and has for the past few days.

This sounds like a conversation that me and my hubby would have.

Maybe when he changed the battery, he absentmindedly just closed it without the battery inside. I can see that happening.

Like the game clue...I got it figured out!

Sandra grabbed the 2nd key fob in the kitchen (instead of the one with the new battery). I WIN!

Men ... sometimes you really don't get better from them!
When they are aged (like the mine), the debt always shifts to another ... Pfff…
Can't the "poltergeist" or the "ghost" give them a tick?! LOL

That is a mystery. Especially since it worked after he changed the battery and the screw was still in it. Do you have Gremlins?

Hello

That is a mystery, how can it work for a few days and stop. Where did the battery go? We have similar things happen here too, it is the gremlins. Enjoy your day!

Lol! This is exactly how our arguments go. I complain and he says WHAT DID YOU DO TO IT? HA HA Yes, it's always my fault.
I'm glad you figured it out because the last time I couldn't get my key fob to work, the battery was dead and we had to pull the front tire off to get to the battery to put a new one in. Dodge Journey...I don't know whose bright idea that was, but they should go back to the drawing board with it.
Have a great weekend!

LOL LOL the trials and tribulations of today's techie world...magical things are wonderful until they are not...Then booom one day we have to remember the old tried and true methods. That has happened to us once but a new battery did the trick.
thanks for the giggle

"What did you do to it?" …. girl, I nearly fell off my chair. Laughing and nodding my head like a bobble-doll.
And a hidden key-hole? For the first time, I can say I'm glad my car's old (a 2005 edition).
So hoping Anni guessed correctly. If not, this is going to bother me forever and ever.

This is a total puzzle...if you ever figure it out, you have to post the minute you do...or email everyone of us that comment. This is so, so strange.

Talking about keyfobs, I changed the battery in ours just a year or two ago...now mine only works half the time. They had not been changed since we bought it new in the fall of 2007. I need to investigate. I cannot see the battery being dead with as little as we use them.

LOL- Oh, yeah! I get that. I am willing to bet that the battery case part wasn't snapped completely closed and the battery slipped out into the bottom or your purse, or a pocket, or just dropped somewhere as you were carrying your keys...and as you worked desperately to make it work the case snapped shut tightly. Just my thoughts. lol xo Diana

This could be an interesting mystery to solve.

Wow, life is a never ending saga at your house.
What a mystery. Probably the opening wasn't firmly shut and it just fell out????
Glad the problem was solved though.
Perhaps it WAS a Poltergeist...(:0)

My present 2013 Kia Sportage has a keyless fob so car would not lock or unlock if battery in fog was dead. My earlier Kia had a set up like yours and it often gave me issues. It was a 2005 Sorento know well for electrical issues. The car battery would drain over night and all would be dead. In the 10 yeas I had it we replaced the 12 volt battery every two years as soon as we notices the radio settings got messed up because shortly after that the car fob and all were not working. It was a hassle but we loved that ride.
As for your fob battery vanishing it is truly odd. Ah and that you are to blame sounds rather familiar. Seems guys are rarely wrong so we must be. LOL

Unfortunately, it's rare but batteries are known for spontaneous combustion; this happens in our TV remotes all the time. Nobody knows why it happens, it just does. Just like the missing socks from the dryer. Never to be found again. (I would still blame my husband with his fumbling fingers...ha!) Enjoy your day!
