Clear Creek Road Memory Flash

I have been a member of Kindle Unlimited on Amazon for more than 3 years.
Unlimited books for 9.99 a month. I read a LOT.
2 or more books per week. I read every day of my life and have since I was 5 years old.

I started a new series, Tracy Crosswhite, by Robert DuGoni.

Book 3, In The Clearing,  page 3 excerpt below

The words Clear Creek Road caused an instant Memory Flash.

I laid the kindle down and walked to my  desktop PC, opened Google Maps and found  Clear Creek Road in Pineville Kentucky.

I lived there with my parents from age 10 to 13. So many happy memories.

With the help of Google Earth I traveled the streets of Pineville looking at all the old buildings and then I went out to the school where my dad went to school and I drove along Clear Creek Road.

I found the place where our house used to be but is no more in his now apartments and I looked at the creek that we used to play in and I looked at the little tributary that my brother used to build damns to catch crawdads, in order to chase me with them.

I came out of a Google Earth Fog one hour later, at 3:30 PM and realized I had forgotten to feed big boy at 3.

An HOUR of my day, disappeared into the past. ..

sometimes when reading, I get up to SEE what they are describing, sometimes they play a song in the book and I come find it by the person they are listening to..
It can be a building, a road, a town, a country that I never heard of... Can anyone relate???
Have you done this?

Yes, I have done this!! Especially with music on a T.V. show. I go on the computer to find and listen to it, get involved with the singer, the lyrics, his other songs, his concerts. What a walk down memory lane you took!

Because of my eyestrain I haven't been able to read complete books since I was a kid. I'm happy that you can, and yes, I do stop a lot to look things up. (I can read a lot more on the computer because I stand about 26 inches away from the monitor and it doesn't stress my eyes.) Stopping to look things up is going into depth on a subject, and it enriches our lives.

Yes! I do this. There are a few blogs that when they talk about where they go, I jump on goigkecesrth or Google maps and travel down their roads...plus a few odd ones here and there. And I do screen captures I'd some of the stuff I see.

Did you know that in the 70s Pibeville flooded so bad...it was featured in National Geogrsohic?

Oh yes, books, telly, random conversations - I go research little factoids and add to my knowledge - or remind myself of the knowledge once had but long unused! YAM xx

Good morning Sandra,

Yes, I have gone to my computer to look up various bits of information.
I like looking up the lyrics to songs, or listen to them on youtube.
Google earth is amazing. It is great to retrieve all this info right from our fingertips. Take care, have a happy day!

I have done a search like that once in a while.

Nope, can't say that I've done that but it sounds like fun.
I do read with a kindle though and what I really love is that if I come across a word that I don't know the meaning of I can hold down on the word and kindle will give me the definition.

I am such a dinosaur. I don't even read on Kindle. But I have gone off on memory tangents. Just not so much by using high-tech stuff. We have photo albums covering the last 50+ years and stacks of old letters.

Ah yes. I call myself a professional student. Always looking for the whys and ways. We play rummie most nights after supper and my phone is always on the table because most nights something comes up we want to know more about.
Isn't google earth and maps so much fun. I travel the roads and streets my ancestors traveled when doing family research.

I am an avid reader too and being a certified germaphobic I recently signed up for LIBBY and app thru the Wake Co. library. Just like walking into the library but NOT touching the books.
I'm reading Blue Moon by Lee Child, a Jack Reacher series. Very good
I also have BookBlub

I've read a couple of those books and enjoyed them. I used to be on that Kindle Unlimited years ago, but stopped because I didn't find enough books for me and my taste in books there. Maybe I should check it out again. And, yes, I have done this too. I really enjoy Google Earth.

Well, yes ... and no. When I read, I have to identify (on some level) with one or more characters. I visualize them in my mind, hear their voices and watch as they go about -- like a cinematic performance happening in my head. That's probably why I HATE when a favorite book is made into a movie.

I never considered taking a tour via Google Earth. But given to sentimentality this time of year, I'm going to do just that.

Yes! I definitely do that too and tend to get lost when I do as well. Since I have my book shop I always have a great selection of books to chose from, but one summer I did the free 3 month kindle unlimited trial and read a book a day!

Only occasionally..for me it's "that's interesting, I'll have to look it up later" hence it never happens.
I guess it's senior-itis...Between my wanting to and doing it is one big epic FAIL.

Not so much with Google earth, but definitely for song lyrics or band facts! And IMDb for the background on movies.

I often replay something from my past although I don't get lost in it...LOL! But think of all you accomplished and Beau waited patiently, I'm sure!!...:)jp

I have not done this, but it sounds like a good way to make a book come alive.

Your reading amazes me and I wish I could change my ways. Get away from the TV and read!!! I have about 500 books on my Kindle app. Also I love that we can search for things through Google. It is really amazing.

I do this all the time!! Indon't even have to be reading... I'll just think of a place I want to "visit" and go via Google Earth. Lots of fun!!

YES!!! I do this, too! Especially with the book Walk to Beautiful by Jimmy Wayne.
Makes it all the more real.....

I do this even just from a memory that pops into my head some days. And I have to head over to EU to locate past links to those memories. I imagine many of us older folks with some computer savvy do so. But times are changing as the internet keeps trying to redirect you to your current location more and more. Searches are no longer global and easy.

I haven't read a book in quite a while, I am way overdue. I was a prolific reader when I was a kid. Used to fill up the basket on my bike with library books and pedal home as fast as I could so that I could start the first one. I did a Google Earth search on my home where I lived from five to 15. I remembered it so well but the gate I used to swing on constantly had long gone.
