Ghost Bumps?

Things that go bump in the day Part 2, AKA Ghost Bumps?
In a prior post, I told you I stepped behind the big bush and immediately the hairs on arms and legs stood straight up. The word energy was used.
Most of us thought Ghost Goosebumps! Will you admit to that?
You know, spooky stuff like in the movies and books.
Can you say Research? that is my middle name. Ha Ha.

By typing why do hairs stand up on my arms in Google search, I found 3 words that all mean hairs stand up on skin.
horripilation -the erection of hairs on the skin due to cold, fear, or excitement.

Piloerection is a technical term for what happens when your hair stands up, such as when you’re cold, scared, or excited. better known as goose pimple, goosebumps, goose skin

cutis anserina  the medical term for the emergence of tiny bumps on the skin usually in response to the cold

None of the above seems the right answer to me, and I dug deeper.

AHA! a well known side effect to phenylephrine is the standing up of hairs on the body.

Guess what has phenylephrine in it? Nasal Spray!

Guess who has over the past week 3 times used Flutazone spray?

OH MY. I thought it was a ghost, maybe a real ghost, like the one below.

Hi, my name is Beau,
I am a ghost you know!
I wasn't born this way,
My mama took me into PicMonkey and did play!
Do I still look handsome wrapped in a sheet?
Or do you think I just look Sweet?

So wait, it was caused by your nose spray? I use Flonase. Gosh, you are GOOD! You should be a fact checker for a large news channel.

can it be that simple? ;O)))

Wonder if the labels on nasal spray list phenylephrine as a side effect? Or even if the p-word is a listed ingredient?!?!!

Your research turned up some good information. Who would have thought that nasal spray could do that.

LOL, I nearly typed 'horripilation' in my response yesterday but decided to keep it simple. Yes, all three are good terms, but the horripilation would apply still even when 'chemically induced'! YAM xx

Wow, I would have never guess using the nasal spray would have such an effect.
Google is wonderful.
Have a great day!

I agree with Martha! Stuff like that would put me to sleep. Now I'm a little disappointed that PA wasn't so clarivoyant after all.

Beau's the sweetest ghost ever ... I'm going to tell him so in just a minute!

What a reveal, Sandra, and I will check with my husband since he is the sole user of that same nasal spray and similar sinus products. Thanks for digging deeper into this and NOW we know more than before!

We prefered ghosts, but F heard something the other day about the difference between fiction and reality - fiction has to make sense. And here you are making sense of reality. Like I said, we prefered ghosts, cos everyone knows that cats can see spooks. xxx Mr T

Nasal spray! But maybe a ghost, too, restless in the heat!

just "wow" - I would not have thought the nasal spray - more like that "feeling been here before" - even though you were in your own garden

That is interesting. At least it is not a ghost. Puppy makes a cute ghost.

Priceless Beau poetry! I am scheduled for an ENT visit next month and will be getting a new prescription for Flonase. Never had the " hairy" experience. If I have a similar reaction your research will quell any ghostly fears!!
