Two Chairs and Albert and Costello part 1

the old chair I hated

The new old chair that sits where the old old chair sat

The chair I Hated, the fake leather was cracked,  and the rocker thingy kept snapping.
I paid 75 dollars for it in a thrift store about 20 years ago.
I knew in my head what I wanted, but when I checked the prices what I wanted did not add up to what I could afford to pay...
Tuesday morning I headed to UPS Store to return and Amazon pkg.
I realized I was one block from my favorite thrift store.

the reason it is my favorite is it belongs to the local Hospital and all the Board members donate to it and the merchandise is always great.
I got Bob a 60 dollar bag to use for the YMCA for 3 dollars. My leather bag for tops was a 120 dollar bag for 4 dollars.
It is my go to when I have a NEED, I do not wander thrift stores. I thought, they will not have a chair like I want but I will run in and check.
Straight to the furniture store AND THERE IT SAT!

I peaked at the price and nearly hurt myself rushing to the front to tell them I want that chair, afraid someone else would grab it.
Cashier said to other cashier, how do we sell the furniture:
She said push that bell 3 times and she told me to go back and stand by the chair, I laughed and thought I will sit in it till they come, no one is getting that chair.
It had called my name from a block away.
A really old guy came and wrote me a ticket and said go up front and pay, drive around back to the Pickup sign. I said I can't buy it if you can't get it in my SUV.
He handed me the ticket and walked out the back door, kind of like talking to Bob.
Did he hear me and ignore me or just not hear me.

Two really old guys and a really old gal, about my age, ha ha, popped out the door and the chair was sitting on the drive way.
The guys were Bob's Brothers by other Mothers.
One said it will not fit, the other said yes it will, they got it in but the door would not close, the woman climbed in the back seat pulling and tugging and I listened to the two Bobs  bicker over if it would or not close.
on the 3rd time the man said, it will not close I heard, BAM!
The Door Closed! I had it...........
to be continued.

Hurrah, sucess! There is nothing like the rush of finding that one thing you really want and aquiring it. It is a heady and exhilarating experience! The chair sure is a huge improvement on that old ugly one!

Love your account of finding the chair and getting it home. Now you have a comfy seat and it looks as if you can put your feet up too. :)

I had a fave 'op shop' in OZ, for similar reasons of knowing the patrons would always leave worthy stuff. Indeed, even here in wee Dunoon, I managed to get some excellent furniture for the Hutch from such stores. What fun!!! YAM xx

My luck, the chair was sticking out too far and the back glass window shattered!...anticipation

WOW, nice chair. I would shop at that thrift store too. I actually love the look of the first chair though too. I don't know why but I've always liked the look of mission style furniture.

I LOVE it! (But then again, I love the old one, too -- for it's design -- not actually to be sat on/in.)

LOL-ing about frick-and-frack trying to load it in your SUV. Wonder if they don't offer fee-based delivery services for those people like me who only drive sedans.

Did I miss hearing what y'all did with the old one? Can't wait for Episode #2!

What a good find, Sandra, and in your favorite thrift store too. Glad it was able to fit in your SUV although I was wondering about that until I got to the end of the post. Hope the chair is comfy with that ottoman.

Wow I used to love thrift stores. Now we need to donate more. We have a smaller house but are not yet moved in.
Hopefully soon.
