I Scream for Ice Cream

I scream for Ice Cream, and I can't have it. I gave up sweets 6 year ago to lose weight and the thing I have missed the most is
ICE CREAM. Now I am making my own and eat it for 10 AM snack Every Day

My doctor suggested I drink ensure, one or two a day to up my protein intake.

I keep my IBS symptoms under control by my diet.

I said Ensure has things in it that

aggravate IBS.

I emailed Heather at HelpForIBS blog and asked if she was aware of Ensure or another protein drink that would work with IBS.

She replied No, all Ensure will aggravate your symptoms.

She has suffered this since she was 9 years

old.

Heather said, make your own. Use soy, oat, rice milk when you make your fruit drinks instead

of water. That will add protein and be the same as ensure.

I had already tried all the FAKE milks with cereal and could not stomach it, the taste was horrid to me. I love real milk.

I paid 4.59 cents for 1/2 gallon of  Organic Vanilla Soy Milk and

ITS A MIRACLE....

The Food I miss the most is ice cream. Vanilla Soy Milk with frozen mango and strawberries is delicious, it has protein, and it is the replacement for the ice cream I miss. No IBS harm done.

Protein added by eating ice cream!!!!!

Place the amount of fruit you want, in the amount of milk that covers it and blend. I have been eating that with water/fruit and that is also delish.

Adjust to your own taste, sweeten if you like. I do not.

While chatting through email with blogger friend Rose,

I mentioned my soy milk had expired. The expiration date was

2 weeks out, but next to it, it says only good for 7 days AFTER opened.

I complained it is too expensive to pour it out and no way can I drink it

all in 7 days. Rose said Freeze some of it. this sent me down the research rabbit hole and

Voila, enter MINI MIRACLE Two....

Not only did it say it could be frozen, but it also explained it only changes the consistency, does not harm the taste. And further digging gave me a list of ways to use the soy milk which means I can use it all in a week.

I have been making crepes/pancakes/muffins, and anything that requires milk, with water. Soy milk works well because I can't taste it and adds more protein.  (while typing this, maybe I should put cheerios cereal in the ice cream for a meal)

IF YOU ARE THE MADSNAPPER THERE IS ALWAYS A FLY IN THE OINTMENT!

COST!!!!

COSt FOR SOY MILK, whopping 220.32 YEARLY!

Bobs Milk and My milk $417.40 year for MILK for 2 people. OY VEY!

The good news is I found soy milk for $1.50 less and realized I bought organic, and I am trying the normal stuff.  I do get to say once again, I scream for ice cream, and have it every day.

Have you ever totaled the cost of things you buy regularly for annual $$$ spent? If not do it NOW and joy me in my MADness!

You did GOOD. Ice-cream is my comfort food as well, I adore it. We have not had dairy milk in maybe 10 years. I use Blue Diamond Reduced Sugar almond Milk and it really tastes good, even drinking it by itself. But it has to be the reduced sugar. The regular and sugar free do not taste good. I use it in all my cooking as well.

I used to only drink soy milk, for about ten years... but was advised by my doc to return to standard as it turned out my body doesn't concatenate the protein from the soy and I was deficient. Every now and then I do buy it though - because I like the taste! And yes, it makes great smoothies. YAM xx

That's awesome that you found a way to enjoy ice cream again. I was just talking to a girl at work the other day about the cost of certain foods. If you want to eat healthy it's expensive. It's much cheaper to eat junk food.

I hear you on the Ice Cream. WE haven't had real dairy ice cream since December 2022. WE do eat Sherbet. WE like rainbow sherbet and ginger ale floats in the summer.
We love our hairdresser Debra. We have been going to her for 20 years at least. March 2021 she closed her own shop for many reasons mainly rent went up and lots of her elderly (older than us) clients find parking in the area very hard. And she wanted to cut back hours. Her shop was at the end of a small hill and only parallel parking. Or a very uneven lot with was at the top of the hill. Since April 2021 she rents a room at this salon it has about 25 rooms. All rooms are set up fully. The sinks in the middle can be shared. The owner of the salon takes care of all the towel washing. She works in the salon 3 days a week. The other 2 she travels to senior living facilities to do hair.

This was extremely interesting. I a m glad you found a substitute and that you like it. I have never figured out how much I spend on things - I am a little afraid! lol

Borne of necessity, but props to you for making time to discover what works (or doesn't). Most me (me) are lazy; accustomed to sampling this, that or another -- and wind up spending more $ than is wise.

Like others have said, I'm nervous to see what I actually spend on non-essentials. (Publix deli, I'm looking at you.)

What a great plan you came up with and glad that you like it. I love ice cream but only have some once in awhile. However it doesn't bother me in anyway other than my weight. Yes, those seven days go by quickly. I write the date on my almond milk when I open it and mush eat cereal those days to use it up.

Wow, that's a definite win/win for you.
So glad you found something to satisfy your tastebuds and keep your IBS at bay.
We don't even have milk or the substitutes in the house. I try to not bake or cook with it. My tummy is a lot happier and I never could use it all up before it went bad..happy me and my wallet.

I'm allergic to the dairy protein which means any and all dairy is out. I really do miss ice cream.

Whatever works best for you, and I'm glad you found the answer to your ice cream cravings.I think I spend more on bird food and Squirrel food than my own food.

As much as we enjoy ice cream and would always features a selfie of ourselves enjoying it, we have not indulged for going on 7 weeks. It has not even been in our home freezer for longer than that. We are on a weight loss journey and know that ice cream is a trigger food in that we will always want it again. While your version is one that works for you, Sandra, we would still prefer to have the real deal when and if we indulge. Thankfully, we do not have any medical issues, like IBS, that would prevent us from having some, just the mental ones of gaining weight.

We have never tallied what we spend for certain items, except that in the past month or more we are spending less because of not buying certain foods.

I’m so glad you found a way to have ice cream again! Drat inflation that you have to be concerned about the cost.
