Above is our 35 year old Dwarf Powder Puff Bush, bottom before drought, top 2 months ago and below what 2 inches of rain did 3 weeks ago. But that was our last rain. We are still in drought. I watch it and hope it will come back. Looks hopeless, right?
Below is the large powder puff from our bush that came through the drought and now hs over 200 big red balls on it. they bloom from Nov to end of March. We cut it down and it comes back in about 6 weeks

I asked Bob to hold the ugly dead ball and I touched with my finger and all these seeds fell into his hand.
each one can make a 30-foot tree of beauty.

I say miracle because we now have 3 little trees from seeds like this one, they planted themselves.
If the big tree dies others will take its place, unless of course mankind interferes with The Plan

I have always loved it and have a folder with only photos of it. I have been meaning to make a collage of it to frame and put somewhere.

I've always enjoyed seeing your pictures of this. Does it grow fast? If the big bush were to die would the ones planted by all those falling seeds grow in to replace it quickly?
Power Puff trees are so pretty. I miss seeing them like we had in Titusville. Seeds are a promise of new life as long as the soil is receptive.

Glad to read, Sandra, that the Power Puff tree is making a comeback. After reading that the drought is ongoing in FL, I was wishing I could package and send you some of the rain that NH has been getting. This winter we've had more rain than snow and it will continue so this weekend.
I, like Ginny, have always loved those blooms! What a joy it would be to have one in my own yard.

Beautiful tree and I recall that you identified them for us in Greece. Have you ever considered planting thee seeds deliberately? Throw a few about the neighbourhood perhaps.
I think they are pretty bushes. I see a few around here from time to time. Will you be getting rain this Spring?

It is an amazing tree with unusual and beautiful flowers. I hope your tree comes back. I once was told that certain plants and trees in hot, dry climates will go dormant to reserve their energy, until the rains come and then come back to life. I hope this happens with yours.
I'm so happy they came back strong after the rains...I really like how pink they get!!
