Today is the first day of July and the 4th of July/Independence Day and 248th birthday of USA is looming. Perfect time to show the flag.
While watering with the hose, I spied a small piece of concrete. I bent down and brushed the sand off the top and there it was, a flag pole holder that had been hidden under dirt and grass and the drought killed the grass and I watered it up... it has been hidden from us since we moved here in 1989
I might find a bird bath on a pole to put in the flag holder.
The flag used to live in the fern on the porch, and has for the past few years for holidays. Now it resides in the pot of ferns in yard. Just around the corner. Some of you may remember the week before Christmas a man that was filling his truck with fuel, handed me a begonia and said Merry Christmas. We were chatting while filling up. The sun was to much for it in the back yard, and now it is loving it on the front porch.

wow that is a super piece of history... I was a first grader in 1976 and had a broken arm... amazing what memories come up, when we find such a time whitness....

That was the Bicentennial Year! A great time to install a new flag holder in the ground! I love that!! Maybe you should research the Hill family who put it there! That's intriguing! Is the hole big enough and deep enough to put a real flag pole into? Why not? Especially this week! Let Freedom Ring! Oh, I Love your little bench on the porch! That is really sweet!!! And your lovely Florida yard! Oh, and in July of 1976 I would have been about 1 month pregnant with our third son, so I may not have even known it yet! But I sure knew it 8 months later when he came bouncing out at 10 lbs-9 oz.! LOL. Those were the days my friend...we thought they'd never end...wow! What a walk back in time this was! Thanks for the memories!

Now how cool is that!? I can get how exciting this is for y'all. We bought this property in May 1985, moved here in March 1993. It was "virgin" territory for house building since beforehand all it had been was pasture then planted pines. As the house was being built I would explore the acreage. I found very old pharmacy bottles (for aspirin and the like) and broken pottery. Discoveries such as these are such fun. 💙

Ours is up on the front of our garage. Its going to be completely cooked by July 4. Temps suppose to be 111F.

I got goosebumps seeing the inscription "Hill 1976" because Ron's daughter married and became Mrs. Hill this month in 1976.
If we don't get something done to the broken flag mount on the overhang, I may have to copy your idea and put a flag or two in a pot.

Wow, I'm amazed that you haven't seen it since 1989. The begonia looks nice. Glad it is doing well there on the bench. I have a few small flags around in the house.

I enjoyed the story of the man giving you the begonia, a lovely thing for him to do. A nice surprise finding the flagpole holder.
It's unfortunate the trees had to be reoved, but if a hurricane took them down, it would be much worse. Currently, we are also watching projects from our apt windows as work continues on the pocket park next to the ill apts. There is all sorts of heavy duty equipment from cranes to bull dozers and even a barge on the river with a couple of cranes. I will post an update on my blog soon.
