Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder!

I watched a tutorial on how to add light and shadows and chose my sweet little Crow that I drew a few weeks ago. He is now living in the spotlight. Almost!

I did the shading, on below and was not happy, so I made It Mine, with my signature black outline
I had just uploaded these and I watched another tutorial and the first words out of her mouth were...
One thing you should never do when drawing, is outline flowers with black. there is nothing in nature that is outlined with black, learn to add light source, shading and shadows.
OOPS! I love my black outlines and

PS And I love black outlines. "One thing you should never do when drawing, is outline flowers with black. there is nothing in nature that is outlined with black," So what? When we draw, we get to decide.

I'm impressed! I don't see a problem with your outlines. Not every drawing is meant to look like a realistic painting! :)

You must have seen on the news where a banana taped with duck tape was sold for many thousands of dollars. Your crow is adorable! And the last one is so pretty!!

Artistic licence goes a long way...therefore do in your art what you like and if it pleases you!

I Liked your lady with the sun hat, and the crow is siocute! I had a giggle at the banana 'art'!

Looks like something Charles Manson would have done while he was serving time in the pen.

Well I hate to say it but when I'm drawing I like to use black outlines. I suppose if I was going for a realistic look it would be different but I'm not. The black outline makes it look more finished I think.
Those are both excellent quotes. I have a long way to go to figure out how to use that app to catch up to you.

Not outlining flowers in black doesn't make sense to me. You can take a photo of a flower if you want to see what they look like in real life. Thanks for your comments, I wanted/needed some feedback.

You are incredibly talented, but no painting is worth 25 million! lol

HERE you are! For some reason, MadSnapper isn't showing up on my reader this morning.
Anyway ...
I'd tell that know-it-all tutorial to mind her own business. It's your playground and you can make your own rules. Love Jean and David's quotes and may have to save them in my treasure box.

They are all beautiful done and my favorite are the flowers outlined in black. That crow is so cute!

I agree with others above about the flowers, it's the artist's choice whether to outline in black or not, it totally depends on what you're trying to achieve. Trying out different methods yourself is probably the only way to find out what works for YOU. - Good luck with the bananas, just watch out so that you don't have to pay a fine for stealing the idea... (lol)

Every artist has their own signature...not only in the signing of their name, but in their work as well... the great thing is....that for every artist, there are thousands of us who see the drawings/paintings and we are all have different likes. Your paintings with the lines or without, just might be what appeals to hundreds of those thousands!!
I love your work....while I know that drawing roses and flowers and landscapes is what appeals to so many people....these are not the things that click with me...I like simple and unique drawings... Like your duck with the light shining on him....I would proudly hang him in my house... You are doing great and learning more and more every day.. woo hoo!!!
