Some of you might remember I fasted for lab work, on the WRONG day, on Tuesday. I found out because I saw April Fool Day on blogs.
On Wed, The Real Lab appt day after starving for the five hour wait, we get up early I hit the road at 8:15, with only 1.5 miles to the office.
Let My Second April Fool day Begin!
First Slow Down, was the School Zone a few blocks from home has cameras that take a shot of your car and how fast and auto sends a ticket for $125.00 to your mail box. First Slow Down.
Second Slow Down, as I crawled past the school, looking ahead, orange cones were being set out, making 2 lanes one lane, setting up to Trim Trees.
Third slow Down was 2 blocks further, where more orange cones were making the other side one lane drive only because the power company was putting up new POLES.
The trip was slow but good, blood drawn and happy, I rushed to the car and locked myself in with AC running and grabbed the baggie with 3 cubes of seriously sharp cheese, and 2 pieces of French bread, and a bottle of Beano.. Ha ha and TWO cups of ready to drink COFFEE in insulated bottle.
I sat and chewed and sipped and ate in the park lot. I was starved because we get up at 3:30 and I had to go without anything but water because I could not drink the one cup of coffee allowed when blood fasting, because I must eat bread before I drink coffee. my appt was at 8:40.. just sayin
I pulled out and about 6 blocks away, where they had been putting out cones, was a
Slowing to full stop, I sat staring at the cute young man ( 70 years younger than me) holding the STOP sign in front of my car. First in line I waited for the other cars winding their way through the orange cones, one lane only.
I remembered Ann's post about RAK I read about her Random Acts of Kindness. That made me remember my RAK post, that a smile is free and everyone on the planet can read it.
When the with the STOP sign, lifted his lips to the walkie talkie, and turned the sign to SLOW, I beamed a 3000 watt smile and wiggled my fingers at him through the windshield... His face broke into a killer smile and he wiggled his fingers back at me and as I SLOWLY drove between the cones, I thought, he is probably wondering if the lady was one of his grandmothers friends that he should have recognized.
But Wait There is More, 3 blocks further was the 2nd row of cones, yet another STOP, but Yay, I could avoid it by taking the next left to the other street, which is where I needed to go, because on the seat beside me was the pipe out of the pool filter that needed "O" rings and the target of my next stop.
(I have no reason to hurry, except Bob is home with the dog, I left him in the back yard, pulling the poop pump into pieces, and he falls over if you look at him, and thoughts like, he is laying bleeding in the hot sun and I need to get home)
Gleefully, I turned onto 51st street and 6 blocks away? ha ha ha another construction site with cones.
I finally pulled in the parking lot of Hardware Store and came to a full stop.
in the middle of the road was a loaded semi, it was full and there was an adorable little Fork Truck unloading. PHOTO above was taken after I shopped, that is my car, and the fork truck was done, the truck pulled out and I could drive out the driveway.
I smiled at the fork truck and waved, he waved back, I smiled at the man who told me which aisle to find the "O" rings, I smiled and laughed and joked with the man I asked to help me find the one that fit the thing I had in my hand and he smiled and helped me and said you can Buy 5 of these that I am pretty sure will work at 5 dollars OR you can buy this box of 200 "O" rings for 10.99 and it has all the sizes and you will not have to come back to get the right ones if this doesn't work out.
DONE and DONE and The Pump Is Done and doesn't spray water anymore and we will never have to buy "O-rings" again. Bob was thrilled with the box. I was thrilled my blood was on its way to tell me if I will live or die and My Big 2nd April Fools day was over.
I found a similar electric fork lift to show you just how cute it was and I forgot to take a photo.

Wow! You had a bad drive there and back, but you made lots of people happy out there! Now we pray for good results on the blood work.
The tiny lift is adorable for sure. Good grief, are they always putting up poles, doing road work and trimming trees all the time?
My word what a morning. It sounds like state Highway 1 from here to Christchurch - more roadworks than highway. I like that despite starving you remember RAK.
What a Feel Good account! I've no doubt you made those on the receiving end of your smile feel instantly better. Makes a body want to break out in "Oh, what a beautiful morning" from Oklahoma. (Ask Bob, lol.)
That's a great idea about carrying sharp cheese and French bread.
PS - I'm a little surprised the street crews are doing all that work before Easter. Isn't that traditionally the time snow birds leave to go back north?
Wonderful to have some yummy food and beverage waiting after fasting labs.
I tell you nearly every road /street we want to travel on has some type of construction or traffic mishap
Hugs to you and Double Bx

That really was quite the fasting! and slowing adventure you had!
Those cones were out to get you for sure. Smart move bringing that food in the car with you. Mom needs her morning breakfast too, it isnt much but she really needs it at that time in the morning. Glad the trip all worked out

You poor thing...what a long fast you had! You were so smart to pack something in the car to eat afterwards. Yesterday I was going to my son and his girlfriends place for lunch and the church down the road had a late let-out, and a police car had everyone stopped for a long way back. So I made a right on the road before that, thinking it would be a quick get around. Ha, ha, I won't tell you the rest, but I probably should have waited in the car line! Thanks for telling us all how you handled it with smiles and little finger waves that created smiles in others. I will keep trying to remember to do that!
70 years younger than you. You are soooo funny.
What a ride though.
