Pony Tail Palm Walkabout

You may remember the above tree. I stopped to talk to the lady who lives across the street from the tree because her yard is a wonderland and I asked permission to walk around taking photos for you.

I asked if she knew the name of the tree. She said it is a Pony Tail Palm...

Per Wiki it is also known as  Beaucarnea recurvata.. say that three times... click on the name to read on Wikipedia.

She grew the pineapple by cutting off the top of one and planting it. Bob did that a few years ago, prior post here.

The below birds are metal sculptures that are wind driven and turn in the breeze. I did not take a photo of everything, Her yard is full..
My Mother would love this yard, she loves all the spinning thingys. Not my taste. How about YOU?

That’s a lovely palm tree, and I like the little gnome. I still have one that a friend bought me years ago. I would also like a water feature in our garden, they make a very peaceful oasis in the ones I’ve seen. Enjoyed the other pretty yard decorations. She certainly has a lovely and well-loved garden. I saw a lot of those spinners at a farmers market we went to the last time we were in North Carolina. I enjoy looking at them but have never bought any. If I saw one that ‘spoke’ to me very loudly, I would probably buy one but our HOA are very strict on such things. We used to have a neighbor with a high hedge and over the hedge was a life-size stone ostrich head. I loved it! They also had topiaries of a rabbit and a squirrel at each side of their house, which they decorated for every season. I loved those too. When they moved I was so sad. The new owners let the topiaries grow into regular bushes (I can't say I blame them as they would take a lot of work to keep up) and the old owners took their ostrich with them no doubt. When I think of them I always smile. Their new neighbors (of the ones that moved from here) are going to love them!

You are RIGHT, her yard IS a wonderland! I have never ever seen wind spinners like these! They are so cool. And you just have to look at them to see how much wind there is. Her theme color seems to be aqua, which is also COOL in both meanings. Especially for Florida. My favorites are the Dragonfly on the stone and the Parrot. Pony Tail Palm is a very descriptive name. I sure do like walking for you, and it is easy on my joints.

what a delightful yard full of fun. Next time you see that neighbor thank her for letting you take photos.
I love spinning things too.

That's fascinating about the pony-tail, I shall call "Beau." (Yep, tried to pronounce it and almost strained my tongue.) Still makes me think of a mad scientist's brain gone amok. :)
Wow, I've never seen a pineapple growing 'in the wild' (*chuckle*). Your neighbor's lawn decorations are cute, but I wouldn't care for them in my yard.

Hello Sandra

Your neighbor does have a pretty yard, I love the pony tail palm. I do like some yard art, I just have a few statues and a couple metal art pieces. I like the water feature and cute frog blessing the garden. We used to have the pineapple plants going all around the Lakeland house. I took one of our Lakeland pineapples to my sister in NC to eat and plant. Enjoy your day!

If I could see the bird in "action" with the wind, I would like them, I'm sure...BUT just ONE. Not a whole yard full. Pretty palm, and I like the lizard too. My dad did the same with pineapple...in Colorado, no less.

The bird sculptures are fun - though I too would opt for one over many. YAM xx

Oh...cool....I had a lot of color and surprises in my yard at the old house but I am trying to keep that down right now. I love designing the yard and putting cool things in it but since my brother is keeping the yard cut I am trying to not make it hard on him....and actually it is less for me to deal with also. But, I do feel that as time goes by, I will add to it. Lily says that YES, cats live their own world and since being around little wild kids (brats) like my grands is not something gets to do often she is not used to it!! Esp for longer then a couple of hours. Braden LOVES animals and all he wanted to do was pet and hold her and she was having NO part of that. Heck, she don't even let me hold her!

Very Artsy Fartsy yard...A bit too much for my taste but I kind of like the Cockatiel coloring.
Nice that she would let you take some Snaps...

PS...I'm sure the gardenia smells wonderful BUT I can't get down far enough or under the tree enough to even get a whiff of it..
These old bones say No. No...

A bit too much for my taste as well - although I suppose it can be fun too. Depends a bit on how the whole garden is planned, I guess.

I'm definitely not into all those spinning lawn ornaments, but I do like that Ponytail palm. I have seen them around here being sold as house plants.

Everything in that yard was unusual. I LOVE unusual! Eclectic.

In Wikipedia you could see the elephant's foot clearly. What an interesting tree. I also wanted to look up the pineapple you planted, but it didn't link. Great post, not my taste, but I like people who get creative with things. I mean the stuff is not my taste, your posts always are!

it was fun seeing all those things in your neighb or's yard, but it was a bit too many things for me. At least it didn't look like she has a lot of lawn to maintain.

That tree is really amazing. Thanks for stopping and asking about it. Those yard decorations are really unique. I've never seen anything like them. I don't mind a few decorations but some yards go overboard with them.

I like the lawn ornaments, not that we have a lawn. :D

The pony tail palm is a beauty. It must be old. I've only seen them so big in the botanic gardens but we have on in the village which had one of those huge flowers on it not long ago.
I'm not much fussed with garden decorations, Just one or two are okay but not loads of them.

I love that tree! I am not a lover of all spinning things, though I might run across one I like every now and then.

She has some cute items in her yard. We don't have any. I have never heard of that palm tree. So unusual.

It is a funny looking tree. I do not like all sorts of thingys either. I prefer plants and perhaps some rocks to reduce weeds around plants.

I really like the Palm Tree..what a perfect name! I'm with you, I love looking at ornamental yards, but it's not for me.
