Backyard Ferns are Fascinating

I did not get a photo of it, but Beau our BIG dog,  likes to scratch the top of his back by standing under these ferns and acting like the bears do when rubbing their selves on trees.
They are four feet tall and 4 feet long, perfect for the height of his back.
Ferns love humidity, and we have lots of that year round. They stay pretty year round.
In our sub tropics, left untended they spread like wildfire and grow very tall.

The funny thing is, my grandmother had giant pots of these in Georgia, and during winter, she took them inside a porch to keep them alive until summer
Bobs wife did the same thing and they carefully moved her pot of ferns in the back of their car when they moved from PA to FL and found they grow wild here

My favorite is the last one. The contrast of it up against the fence, ad bathed in sunlight.

I've always loved the look of ferns. I can't imagine they would be very effective as a back scratcher though.

I adore foliage plants. I like flowers, don't get me wrong... but there is something ancient and lasting about foliage... and ferns in particular. YAM xx

How funny about them bringing the fern from Pennsylvania... who'd have guessed?
I love their graceful look!

I did not know they were 'natural' plants there. Interesting.

There are so many varieties of ferns. I think they are all beautiful.
We have some heartier kinds in our area.
Lucky you to have them in your yard.

When I was a kid they used to grow in the wet areas at Rice Lake area.
They are beautiful us kids never picked them.

Your ferns are pretty. I love ferns and as there are different varieties I would like to have a collection of different types. The ones in our garden are in a shady area and with all the moisture from the rain and snow they've stayed fresh and green.

Interesting to hear about your family. Love your fern shots and you talking about Beau scratching his back made me laugh. Such a clever boy :)

I love ferns and used to have some in the house but I was weary of them and planted them outside. They still come back every year, much to my surprise. But Louis Dean has tramped the bed where they were so I doubt I will ever see them again!

Ferns are so pretty. except for a couple of hardy varieties, they do not grow outside here and I can't even get them to grow well inside.

These ferns love the climate in our area too...but yours always look so much greener than ours!

That's priceless that Beau uses them as a back scratcher. I would love to see that. 🙂

I love ferns, one of my favorites. We have nice roll of them along the sidewalk on one side of the house.
