Alert- and other stuff

 Alert! Breaking News!

You may remember the house that burned in our neighborhood, see prior post.

During my wandering walk yesterday, I stopped to chat with the Lady who lives across the street from that burned down house. No alert needed, since most of you know I stop to talk to anyone who will talk back. No, I did not start the talk, she did. We started with traffice and the nutcases that were trying to run us down while on phones. We went from she was checking on a dog she is sitting for neighbors, to where I lived, where we used to live, why we live where we live.. oops sorry, I digress.

Suzan is her name,

Chatting is her game

You may already know that I am the same.

I grabeed the chance to ask her what caused the fire. I have been waiting for months to find out!

Are you ready? Glade Plug In scented thingy.  The man woke up at 11, went to the bathroom and smelled smoke, the Plug in was in the kitchen on the wall by door into the garage. the wall was in flames.

She said, you will not believe this. The house they moved from one street over, had a kitchen fire caused by the glade plug in. They caught that one in time.

It seems there small dogs are trained to pee on paper, by the back door because they have no fence and do not want to put them on a leash and walk them.. they keep the glade plug in by the pee pads because of the smell....

Just say NOPE to Glade Plug Ins Please, thing if you leave the pets home alone and this happened.

Oh my GOSH!! There ought to be some kind of public service alert about this!!! AND, why didn't they learn the first time? If my house burned down, I for sure would not do the same thing again that was the cause of it! Many years ago, I used these for a few weeks. But for some reason, they made me feel like I had the flu!I had to stop using them. I am sure glad of that now; I got off easy. What an incrdeible story!

Yes, it's strange they didn't learn a lesson from the first time!

wow, sounds like some sort of cross-connection with the electric wiring in the house; because if it was just the Plug in product, surely it wouldn't be on the market anymore. But that's so sad that the people didn't learn the lesson from the first time around...

Definition of insanity - doing to same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Is this a known fault of glade plug-ins, or did the dogs pee on it? (I could imagine it would be an insult to their developed smell senses, we cat's hate such things too.) xxx Mr T

oh my.... to buy a wee wee pad or to walk the diógs would be the better plan than to cover the smell... but that is scary that such a small thing can cause such a big trouble...

Hello,

We do not use the plug-ins, my allergies can not take the odors.
My son uses one, I will pass this news on to him.
Take care, have a great day!

I've used those plug-ins before but heard they were known to cause fires so I stopped. I can't believe someone would use them again after having one fire from them. I also can't believe someone is that lazy that they train their dog to pee in the house. I don't have a fence for my back yard but I do have a tie out so Gibbs can go out by himself.

I had not heard about the plugins causing fires...I do not use them.

Hello Sandra, :=)
We use special ones to keep insects out of the house, especially mosquitoes in summer, harmless to humans and animals, but not the ones used by your neighbour, but if they caused a fire, I certainly wouldn't use them again, I wouldn't let dogs pee in my house either.

I'll be sure never to use those! The reason they use them is even worse!

I don't know if I'm more upset about the fire or the fact those people were too lazy to walk their dogs. (Okay, maybe they're handicapped. I've been known to rush to judgements.)
I'm not much given to allergies -- but can't stand artificial, sweet/floral/cloying scents. My father used to burn pinon incense and smoked cigars; but I don't recall those being bothersome. '
Hope all the dogs escaped the fire unharmed, yet I wonder what's become of them.

There was a spate of reports re plugins about a decade ago, with occasional reports since - but it has never actually been conclusively proven, even by fire investigators, that plugins can cause a fire. That doesn't mean that there might not be the occasional faulty unit, of course. For that owner to have had it happen twice means it is more likely they are doing something wrong with method of use IF it was indeed the cause.

In fact, plugin air fresheners are pretty much zero risk for overheating; they are a greater health/life risk by the odours they send out, and that has been well documented. Use essential oils! (And if they can't walk the dog/s they need to have a deep rethink...) Rant over. YAM xx

Gosh thank you for the advice. I will not!

I do't use those plug ins. Weird though that the can cause fires. Weirder even that you have dogs and they don't go outside. They really need fresh air and outside stimulation. Oh, well...

Oh my word....that is just plain scary. I hope just plain night lights are ok
to leave plugged in. Hugs Cecilia

Well P.U. on the dogs peeing in the house. How unsanitary. but maybe as someone else said they are incapeable of walking far.
Scary how quickly fires can start.

What's that saying about live and learn - guess they did NOT. No plug ins here either, Mom prefers the spray in the can:)

Thanks for this story. I have at times used the Glade Plugins, but that shall end now.

I've heard about those fires. I can't believe people are that lazy. Why have a dog at all??

Maybe those plug-ins are like the wax warmers...directions say 8 hrs. Only.

Some people shouldn't own dogs. Or Glade plug-ins.

Oh wow, not going to use those. Glad you got the info from your neighbor. I noticed how hot those things get and fortunately have not used them in a long time.

thanks for the story. WE had a man die down the street two weeks ago. House burned to the ground. Your story is terrible. dog peeing on papers. If one cannot take dog out why have one. If one works don't leave poor dog alone. They don't deserve a dog. what is wrong with people.

I see a teen on those boards they stand on sidewalks and crossing intersections to another side walk and his dog running on the grass lose . Does he really think his dog knows how to cross the lights at the right time.
On the subjects of dogs.
