Drought and the Avocada Tree

The back yard is scorching in the hot sun, high temps, July Temps in last two days of March and getting hotter, mid to high 90's and some days feels like temps reach into the hundreds, IN APRIL and no measurable rain since Milton the storm.. These are buds, the leaves come out and push off the old, and the buds make the fruit. We doubt it will bare fruit this year.

The ground is thick with buds and each bud if full of pollen, the tree is full of BEES sucking up pollen and the high winds blow the buds like rain and spread the pollen on the dry dirt and in the pool... so UNLIKE our Florida a few years ago

Above photos on 4/11/2025
Current with new eaves, all the dead ones fell off.
Its better now, still no rain.

Droughts are awful, we had drought conditions the last two years.

It's scary... even here talk of drought among the farmers as the April showers have definitley not appeared. Makes me think it might be a wet summer though...YAM xx

Those temperatures are quite awful - and here we had snow again overnight. Not a huge dump, but the ground is white and the branches on the trees are laden. The biggest concern you must have down there is that the same heat that is scorching your backyard is also heating the ocean and that does not bode well for hurricane season. You had more than your share of that last year. Stay well, stay safe, stay cool, be happy. David

The climate is all over the place.

It's amazing what can happen without rain. Those temps are unreal for this time of year. And here we are still only in the 40's and dipping to the 30's some days.

Crazy weather! We've had quite a bit of rain or snow lately. But it's still so cold here. I hope you get rain soon.

We've had a very dry fall and winter too, with very few buds or flowers. So very sad

Praying for you all to get some much needed rain. We have had a lot of rain, but come July, our area will most likely be suffering..Happy Friday to you...

The Barred Owl in your header is my favorite owl. I've had some real life experiences with Barred Owls. I am sorry everything is so hot and dry for you. It's pretty dry here too, and 83 now, but the mornings have been so nice and cool. We might have a chance for some showers tonight, but not much. We shall see. We sure do need it too. Still Waters Pond is receding too much again. But once we get into summer, we will be getting those afternoon thunderstorms and things will come back again. I do hope it will start raining for you soon. Florida goes through these cycles every so often. Then we'll have a terribly wet hurricane season again and everything is filled up to overflowing. I hope no bad storms this year, however. I know you need a break from that. Praying for a normal rainy summer with no major storms. There! That sounds good.

How sad they look! And to think I was wearing a heavy hoodie most of today to ward off the chill. Your pictures tell more than 1,000 words might. Wish I could send you some of our 'trout stream' that appeared after the last storm.

Droughts are nasty, everything suffers when it stays so darn dry.

That's really sad news. It would be nice if you could get some rain.

And our "leader" says there's no such thing as global warming... sure. At least you won't have to deal with Bea trying to eat the avocados...
