Sparkles from My Jewelry Box

I have zero sparkles that have any monetary worth,
They are not even worth the word, Bling
And certainly not worth much of anything.

they have been in the box, for 65 years,
I have to tell you, if I stare at them, they can bring tears.

The only thing new is the pin from TOPS,
I earned it from most lost lbs in a year, which earns it a home in the box.

The yellowed pearls belong to my Dads Mother,
the lighter pearls came from my own mother.
The purple stone, with gold trim belong to my Aunt Helen, Daddys only sister who was my 2nd mother. We lived behind their house for the first 10 years of my life, in their remodeled chicken coop.
They don't really Sparkle, but they do Spark Memories when I take a look.
They are not gold or silver, or pearls from the sea,
they are treasures of memories, and only for me.

None but the TOPS pin have been worn since  I retired from the work place in 2006.

They're worth more than gold to you. Lovely, special memories.

Thanks for the poetry, Sandra. The memories attached to the jewels are what makes them precious. Miriam has bling but hardly ever wears it and her ears are not pierced so she has never worn earrings in her life. I’m with her. The human body has no need to be pierced and tattooed, or ornamented in any other way.

Hello,
I like your "Sparkle of Memories". They are treasure just for you! I do not wear any jewelry except for my wedding band. Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend.

Most of my jewellry is not worth much either (in money) and nowadays as I spend most of my time at home I rarely wear any at all. Possibly sometimes in summer.

Treasures of memories, absolutely!!! I'm not a fan of jewelry, either ... but. These pieces which carry fingerprints from history are so much more than Bling.
I love the way you have them draped over the glasses. Like something in a jeweler's window.

It's funny how opening a box like that can bring back such fond memories. I have lots of jewelry that I wore when I was working, but now sits untouched in my jewelry box too.

Fake jewelry can look just as good or even better than the real thing. WHY pay thousands for something that doesn't even look better than fake! Plus, then thieves will steal jewelry off of you and you would lose a fortune.

OH, yes! They are treasures, and they do sparkle! They sparkle with sweet memories of dear ones long gone...and to me that is far better than silver or gold or diamonds or rubies. I have a lot of "costume jewelry", and an old jewelry box from my childhood with broken and tangled chains and things that I'd never wear again, but can't seem to part with them...who'd want them? Once in a while I look at them and try to remember where they came from, and that's getting harder to do, so maybe it's time to let somethings go. But the things that belonged to my mother and my mother in law and her mother or other grandparents, regardless of their monetary value, I still keep them, and once in a while I wear them to church just because. They aren't fashionable today, but they once meant something to someone that I love, so that's enough reason for me. Thank you for this post today. It triggered some thoughts for me. Someday I may need to organize some things and take pictures and share them, mainly because I want to remember where they came from again before it's too late. Thank you. We need these brain challenges once in a while! I love that purple stone with the little pearls around it...that's so pretty. And I know your "TOPS" pin is very special indeed! You worked hard to earn that, I am sure. Good for you! (((HUGS)))

I do love your Treasures in your "Memory Box".
Those are so special and they are the sparkle in your thoughts. I think we all have those sparkles in our jewelry boxes and drawers. Its good to delve into a bit of nostalgia now and then.

My Dad was a jeweler, and so my mother and us girls had some good things...which I still have, but even my mother had a lot of things from the 5 & 10 stores or similar...and she wore them all, my father never grumbled about it, LOL! I have a lot of those ones too.
Sentimental things and memories are worth SO MUCH!

Thank you for sharing these. They are very pretty and how wonderful to get that Tops necklace for losing the most weight. I don't have much of anything to show when it comes to jewelry.

How cool that these bring memories. That's wonderful. Thanks for sharing that and congrats for keeping the weight off.

Everything in life should be as valuable as the contents of your jewellery box - everything should have its story. The expensive ones are cold, hard, - can't eat 'em and they don't keep you warm. Like you I've nothing expensive and have never even had wedding or engagement rings to flash about.

They may not be worth much to a jeweler but they are priceless treasures with lots of memories. That makes them more than worth their weight in gold. I don't have anything from my mother or grandmother.
